State Election Commissioner shifts the date of Municipal Election in Andhra Pradesh amid Corona scare
AP Local Body Election 2020: Amidst increasing cases of coronovirus across the country, Andhra Pradesh local body elections have been postponed for six weeks. According to State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar, the new dates of Andhra Pradesh local body elections will be finalized after normalcy is restored in the state.
Stating that the decision was taken after a high-level review of the situation, Kumar also mentioned that the election process would not be canceled. In particular, the number of coronovirus cases in the country has risen to 600, today reported to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy not happy
Taking strong exception to the postponement of local body elections, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. On Sunil, Jagan Mohan Reddy filed a complaint with the state governor against the state election commissioner.
State Election Commissioner (SEC) n. Just hours after Ramesh Kumar adjourned the local body elections for six weeks, Jagan Mohan Reddy called Governor Vishwas Bhushan Harichandan and complained to him against the officer's unilateral action.
The chief minister later addressed a news conference to be a hit in the SEC, stating that he was the leader of the opposition. Worked at the behest of Chandrababu Naidu, who was unable to digest the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) elections.
Jagan is known as the Chief Minister, IAS officer Ramesh Kumar was appointed SEC by Chandrababu Naidu when he was Chief Minister. The YSRCP chief also said that Kumar belonged to Naidu's caste.
"Through his moles in administration, Chandrababu Naidu is trying to weaken the institutions," he said.
Jagan asked who empowered the SEC to move collectors and superintendents of police and take unilateral decisions. 'Who is in power? Is it the Chief Minister or the State Election Commissioner? ' He asked.
The Chief Minister said that coronovirus was only an excuse to postpone the election as Kumar had not consulted either the Chief Secretary or the Health Secretary.
Jagan said the condition of coronovirus in the state was not critical for such a measure.
He said the only reason for the postponement was that Chandrababu Naidu was unable to digest the fact that the YSRCP unanimously won a large number of seats in rural local bodies and was rising to lead in elections.
Jagan said that if the SEC failed to compromise its methods, it would take the issue to the highest level.

Lok Sabha polls 2019: How TRS and YSRCP could play kingmakers in Delhi
Interestingly, this kind of march was earlier taken up by his late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy and rival Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu.
According to reports, Jaganmohan Reddy has reached an understanding with Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrashekar Rao. Jaganmohan has reportedly said he would be working with KCR to bring special status for Andhra Pradesh.
KCR has been meeting political leaders including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee to cobble up a non-BJP, non-Congress ‘Federal Front’.
However, with no commitments so far, response to the proposed front has been lukewarm.
YSRCP’s resurgence
Political observers have highlighted YSRCP’s rapid resurgence in the state. Some have also suggested that Naidu’s decision to tie up with TDP’s arch-rival Congress was part of an effort to counter YSRCP.
In Naidu, Jaganmohan Reddy and KCR have a common political rival. KCR’s son KT Rama Rao had said TRS would enter Andhra Pradesh if necessary, to "politically finish off Naidu".
In the 2014 general election, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 17 out of the 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh (TDP and BJP winning 15 and two, respectively). YSRCP had won eight seats while the Congress was wiped out.
In Telangana, banking on a successful campaign to attain statehood, TRS won 11 out of the state’s 17 parliamentary seats. TDP, BJP, YSRCP and AIMIM won one seat, each. Congress had won two seats.
‘King makers’
In December 2018, KCR retained power in India’s newest state. His party won 88 out of the 119 seats in the assembly. The Congress-TDP alliance ended up with 21 seats.
Claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress would not get the majority in the parliamentary elections, TRS Working President KT Rama Rao said the interests of the state would be well-served if the party is in a 'decisive position' by winning substantial Lok Sabha seats.
KTR, as he is commonly known, said TRS could win 16 out of the total 17 Lok Sabha seats, excluding Hyderabad represented by Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
"If we give 16 seats to KCR, he will bend Delhi's neck and we can get the funds for our state, the interests due to Hyderabad and schemes from the Centre to our people," he said.
KCR is hoping to play the role of kingmaker in an event that the hung house is formed in Lok Sabha elections. Many poll surveys have also indicated to the Hung Lok Sabha.
With the hopes of winning YSRCP 14 and TRS 16, Trans-Telugu Partnership can become a group of 30 seats. With 30 seats, the TRS-YSRCP can make a difficult deal at the centre.

Chandrababu Naidu government fails to enthuse people, says Samayam Telugu survey
An online opinion poll conducted by Samayam Telugu has revealed that all is not well with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). People of residuary Andhra Pradesh had voted for Chandrababu Naidu thinking that his experience in politics and administration would bring back the lost glory due to the bifurcation of the state into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The residuary state had received a raw deal in the bifurcation process and lost its precious capital city, Hyderabad. Voters had preferred Chandrababu Naidu over YSR Congress party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the 2014 elections. Narendra Modi’s clean image and Pawan Kalyan’s fan following also helped the TDP at the hustings.
Against this backdrop, Samayam Telugu tried to find out the pulse of the people after four years. The Chandrababu Naidu government has received a serious jolt with more than 58.30 per cent people having expressed opined that the experience of the TDP chief has failed to deliver development to the state.
More than 57 per cent people who participated in the poll have expressed dissatisfaction over Naidu’s four-year rule. When asked about their voting choice in the ensuing elections, about 42 per cent participants opted for YS Jaganmohan Reddy and only 30.85 per cent voted in favour of Chandrababu Naidu.
To a question whether the influence of Lokesh has increased in the party, a whopping 67.89 per cent replied in positive. In another setback to the TDP, more than 80 per cent participants have found fault with Chandrababu Naidu for giving ministerial berths to MLAs who have defected from YSRCP to join the ruling party. A massive 76 per cent people have pointed fingers at the CM for Andhra Pradesh not getting the special category status from the Centre. In another slap on the face, over 64 per cent participants are of the opinion that there is an increase in the corruption in the government.
While most of the people observed that there is no great scheme in the TDP regime, 24.53 per cent people voted in favour of Chandranna Bhima (an insurance scheme for daily wage labour). Over 60 per cent participants found fault with Chandrababu Naidu for not completing the construction of Amaravati capital city, not creating new jobs and not achieving special status for the state.
