Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed (born 22 May 1959 in Bijbehara) is the president of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party. She is the daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. She is a member of state assembly, representing the Wachi constituency of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. She is a law graduate from the University of Kashmir.
Mehbooba is one of the few female politicians from Kashmir who is recognized across all India. So high was her public profile that, when Mufti split from the Indian National Congress to form the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party in 1999, she became party vice-president. She was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 and was a prominent member of the ruling Congress Party-led coalition.
