Odisha Legislative Assembly election is being held in the month of April 2019, along with the Indian general election, 2019. The term of the current assembly elected in 2014 will expire on 24 May 2019.
The incumbent Biju Janata Dal headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress is considered to be the major political parties in the election. Four sitting MP's from Biju Janata Dal joined BJP and INC because they were denied party's ticket.
2019 Indian general election in the 21 constituencies of Odisha and will be held in the first 4 phases of the 7 scheduled phases of 2019 Indian general election.
67.5 per cent voter turnout recorded till 7:00 PM in the fourth phase polls in Odisha, as per the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
61 per cent voter turnout recorded till 5 PM in the third phase polls in Odisha, as per the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
State Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar informed that 64 per cent voter turnout has been recorded till 5 PM in the second phase polls in Odisha.
Around 66% voter turnout was reported in the first phase of the simultaneous polls in Odisha on Thursday, state election office said.
