  • He also claimed that AAP was heading towards a big victory in Varanasi as Modi would suffer a big defeat, contrary to the BJP’s claims and certain media reports.Kejriwal reached the gate of Banaras Hindu University in the Lanka area — which is becoming Varanasi’s political hotspot —with other party leaders and hordes of supporters. • Thousands of supporters from Varanasi and other parts of the country with white caps, flags and brooms gathered on the 500-metre stretch.
  • Unlike Modi’s unofficial road-show of Thursday, Kejriwal and other leaders travelled in an open jeep. The RAF jawans formed a security cordon around his vehicle.(Elections 2014: Complete Coverage of final and 9th pahse polling)
  • Kejriwal said it was a historic election and the people of Kashi would have to decide “whether they will support corrupt politics presented by Modi, or they will choose clean politics, politics for love and respect”.
  • Kejriwal said, “He (Modi) came by a helicopter for two hours before the elections. Do you think he will come here after the elections? I will always be with you. This time helicopter politics will not work.”
  • The party made several arrangements to keep the supporters motivated. A huge screen was placed near the BHU entrance which played videos and songs. Patriotic songs were also being played all across the stretch of the road.

  • On the last day of campaigning in Varanasi, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress vice-president, has begun his roadshow in India's holiest city, from where Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, is contesting his first parliamentary election.
  • Rahul Gandhi, wearing a Nehru topi in Congress colours, stood in a crowded open jeep and waved to the people of Varanasi as he began his revenge roadshow from the Gol Gadda area this morning.
  • The streets are packed with people waving Congress flags and many more have come out on to the terraces of houses to catch a glimpse of the 43-year-old Mr Gandhi. With him are senior Congress leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mukul Wasnik and Rashid Alvi.
  • Mr Gandhi is here to seek votes for Ajai Rai, the local leader his party has fielded against Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.
  • On Monday Mr Modi had stormed Amethi, Mr Gandhi's constituency since 2004, in the last hours of campaigning there. Mr Gandhi, 43, is seen as returning the compliment today.
  • While Mr Modi and his chief challenger in Varanasi, Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party chose to begin their roadshows in the Lanka area of the city, Mr Gandhi will end his 11-km journey there.
  • The Congress has chosen Gol Gadda as the starting point with an eye on the large Muslim presence in the area. The Congress and Mr Kejriwal are fighting for the attention of Muslims, about 15 per cent of Varanasi's population. But Mr Azad emphasised, "The Congress has mustered support from all sections of this seat. We are 100% confident of a win."
  • Mr Kejriwal held his own roadshow on Friday and will hold one again today. Around noon, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav too will land in Varanasi to campaign for his party's candidate.

West Bengal: Continuing the tirade against Narendra Modi, Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that the BJP was collecting 'Modi for PM' fund and said her party would write to the Election Commission about it.

"Modi for PM fund is illegal. PM and CM can only have Relief Fund. How can a political party collect fund for PM?" Ms Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress chief asked at an election meeting in Titagarh in North 24 Parganas. "We will write to the EC against the 'Modi for PM fund'," she said waving a paper.Varanasi parliamentary Election 2014 live updates

"Now I am even hearing they are protesting against the EC in Varanasi. This is unheard of," she said.  Alleging that BJP was spending a huge amount of money in the elections and that 90 per cent of the media had been bought she asked "Who is giving this money?Varanasi Lok sabha Election: cast play an important role

"This has never happened before in democracy. Today it has become a black day for the nation and this election will become a black election for them." In an apparent reference to 2002 Gujarat riots, she added, "See the enormity of the riots in Gujarat when little children and the women were burnt alive... "People of all faiths, caste, creed live together in peace in Bengal. This makes 'Danga Babu' (Mr Riot) very jealous and angry," she said without naming the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate.  She also alleged that Modi was trying to drive a wedge between Bengalis and asked "Who is thelatsaheb? Have you seen the latsaheb?"

Alleging that Muslims and women feared Modi, Banerjee said "Tyag ka naam hai Hindu, Iman ka naam hai Mussalman. Pyar ka naam hai Isai. Yeh hai hamara pyara Hindustan. (Sacrifice is the name for Hindu; Integrity is the name of Muslim; Love is the name of Christian; this is our India)"

"Do we have to learn about Hinduism from BJP? Don't we worship Durga, Kali, Hanuman?" she asked. She accused BJP of playing politics of religion. "We do not play politics of religion. The CPI(M) started this kind of politics. BJP is continuing their tradition," she alleged.

She said that those who wanted to destroy the communal harmony of Bengal should be defeated in the elections. "One who does not believe in secularism can never become a PM."

"Why can't they counter us on policy and development issues? Why are they playing divisive politics? Let there be fight on the issue of political stability and economic stability," she said.

She also reiterated her claim that she would have prevented Modi from coming to Kolkata, but did not do so. "Had I wanted, it would have taken only a day or a minute... this is because you have the democratic right, come and say what you have to say and leave. "The more Modi visits Kolkata, the more votes will the Trinamool get," she added."

BJP leaders Arun Jaitley and Amit Shah reach Banaras Hindu University (BHU). BJP workers took to roads in Varanasi and protested the Election Commission's decision to deny its prime ministerial hopeful Narendra Modi permission to hold rallies in the city.

Modi will arrive at the Babatpur airport in Varanasi by noon on Thursday and will be taken to the Rohaniya rally venue in a chopper. He will then drive through the city to go to the party office where he will meet party workers.

As the BJP readied for Modi roadshow in Varanasi, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, contesting from the seat along with the BJP's PM candidate, targeted him in a series of tweets:  "I invite Mr Modi for an open discussion on a public platform. Let Kashi people ask straight questions from both of us.

If Modi wants to discuss vision of India he should accept Kejariwal's invitation for open debate.World should know whose vision is better!

Here is EC's Permission to Modi ji for Ganga Arti. Then why doesn't he just go and perform arti? Why politicise it?

It is unfortunate that EC is not concerned about the institution's neutrality & that is why our Karyakartas have to embark on a Satyagraha.
