Usually, a by-election occurs when the incumbent has died or resigned. Narendra Modi to fight election from Maninagar constituency, Gujarat Assembly Elections 2012, Gujarat polls 2012,Gujarat Election News 2012, Gujarat News |
20th Nov 2012: Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday indicated he will seek re-election from Maninagar Assembly constituency and asked BJP workers to work hard to ensure he wins the seat with a record margin. "Let's have a competition between you (workers) and me. Let's see who comes out on top - you get me elected with maximum margin here or I get maximum seats out of 182 in the state. You worry only about one and I will worry about all other constituencies," he said at a gathering of party workers in his constituency. BJP is yet to declare its list of candidates for the assembly election to be held on December 13 and 17. At the meet, Modi hit out at Congress and the party-led UPA government at the Centre. "Congress has created a dirty tricks department whose main work is to indulge in character assassination, publish dirty literature about opponents and spread dirt during elections," the BJP stalwart alleged. "They were boasting about overthrowing my government by using Article 356 (President's Rule); what happened to it? I am standing right here, my government is here. They just want to crush Gujarat," Modi said. "We enacted a law (Gujarat Control of Organised Crime Act) to protect the people from terrorism. Our assembly passed it five times but Delhi rejected it. Should we have no right to protect our people? Should we let people die of terrorism?" the Chief Minister asked. source: zeenews.india.com |

07 Nov 2012: Ahmedabad: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and VHP leader Ashok Singhal shared dais at a religious convention here in poll-bound Gujarat on Wednesday. They attended a session on the second day of the three-day convention organised by Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha (HDAS) at Swaminaryan Gurukul at Chharodi on the city's outskirts. The three leaders were briefly joined by Yoga Guru Ramdev, who is touring the state for his Yoga camps. BJP's Gujarat affairs in-charge Balbir Punj was also present at the convention attended by more than 100 religious leaders. The meet was not open to media. During his last visit to Gujarat a few months ago, Bhagwat had not met Modi. The BJP stalwart then travelled to Nagpur and met top RSS leaders, including Bhagwat, last month. Former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, who has formed his own political party to overthrow Modi from power, has openly sought support of RSS and VHP in the state. source: zeenews.india.com |

Nothing can prevent Modi's hat-trick says Thackeray, Gujarat Election News 2012, Gujarat News, Shiv sena Cheif Bal Thackery comments on Gujarat Election |
05 Oct 2012, Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would lead his party to a third consecutive victory in the December Assembly Elections. "Modi has shown his grip on Gujarat and is going to win the polls for the third time in a row," Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'. "A picture is painted on TV channels that Modi is some sort of demon and that he is going to gobble up all Muslims in the country," Thackeray said, adding that it was wrong. "After the Gujarat riots, Congress labelled Modi as 'merchant of death' but look what happened. Congress managed only 55 seats but the Modi-led BJP got 121 seats," the Sena chief said. Referring to former chief minister Keshubhai Patel forming a political outfit, Thackeray said that Congress feels the dominance of Patels in Saurashtra will benefit it due to division of Hindu votes. This is nothing but a "day dream", he added.
