Odisha Legislative Assembly election is being held in the month of April 2019, along with the Indian general election, 2019. The term of the current assembly elected in 2014 will expire on 24 May 2019.

The incumbent Biju Janata Dal headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress is considered to be the major political parties in the election. State Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar informed that 64 per cent voter turnout has been recorded till 5 PM in the second phase polls in Odisha. 

Around 66% voter turnout was reported in the first phase of the simultaneous polls in Odisha on Thursday, state election office said.

In Odisha, elections for both Lok Sabha and state Assembly are scheduled to be held next year.

Congressis gearing up to declare its first list of candidates in Odisha for 2019 elections within 15 days, a senior party leader said on Sunday.

Stating this after a meeting of the newly constituted Pradesh CongressCommittee (PCC) here, AICC Odisha In-Charge Jitendra Singh said the names of at least 50 selected candidates would be initially announced.

He said a meeting of Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) is slated to be held tomorrow where the criteria of selecting candidates for next year's polls will be finalised.

Noting that the focus would be on rejuvenation of the party in Odisha, Singh said party workers and leaders would have to connect effectively with their respective booths.

Moreover, the performance of the newly formed PCC team would also be reviewed every month and steps would be taken accordingly to strengthen the party, he said.

The meeting of the PCC team was held to chalk out electoral strategies to strengthen the party right from the grassroots to the state level as per directives given by Congresspresident Rahul Gandhi.

In Odisha, elections for both Lok Sabha and state Assembly are scheduled to be held next year.

OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik, who chaired the meeting, said Congress has initiated effort to strengthen its base at grassroot level as well as to reach out to the voters at booth level and propagate party's ideology ahead of the general election.

Patnaik said Congress is going to embark on 'My booth, My pride' campaign throughout the state.

Accusing BJD and BJPof having joined hands to cheat people of Odisha, he said Congress will make people aware of the fact and tell them the truth.

The people of the state are facing numerous basic problems and this will be looked into, Patnaik said after the meeting.

1. The State Election Commission (SEC) today announced elections to Hindol, Atabira and Nuapada notified area councils (NACs) on April 3. The model code of conduct will be in force from March 6 to April 5.
2. the State Election Commissioner (SEC) Naba Kumar Nayak said that the election officer issue notification for the polls at the NAC level on March 9. Filing of nomination papers will continue from March 13 to March 17. The nomination papers will be received by the election officer at each of the NACs going to polls.
3. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 19. The SEC said the list of eligible candidates will be published on Mach 20 while the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is March 22. The final list of candidates will be published on the same day.
4. Polling will be held on April 3 from 8 am to 5 pm, the SEC said and added that counting of votes and declaration of results will be on April 5. Counting of votes will start at 8 am and continue till completion, he said.
5. The three NACs will complete their terms on April 12. The SEC said that election to the post of chairpersons of the three NACs will be held on April 12, while the election to the post of vice-chairpersons has been scheduled on April 30.
