The number of constituencies of Assam Legislative Assembly at the time of its inception on 7 April 1937 was 108. In 1957 it was reduced to 105. In 1962, the number of constituencies was enhanced to 114 and since 1972, it is 126. Since 1976, 8 constituencies are reserved for the Scheduled castes candidates and 16 constituencies are reserved for Scheduled tribes candidates

Congress on Monday fielded Dhansukh Rajput, three-time municipal councillor of Surat and a migrant, to take on BJP’s Jankhana, daughter of the late MLA Raja Patel, from Choryasi Assembly seat in Surat in the bypoll to be held on January 21. Rajput filed his nomination at Surat district collector office on Monday. Till the last day of filing nominations Monday, 34 persons have filed their papers.

SURAT: In all, 34 candidates from different political parties and independents have filed nominations for Choryasi assembly by-elections scheduled for January 21. The seat fell vacant the after death of Raja Patel, BJP MLA on September 9 last year. Patel died of dengue.

Live Voting % Choryasi By Election-
Choryasi recorded 38.04% turnout
The voting was carried out at 380 polling booths and over 2,202 election officials were deployed. The voting started at 7.00 am and continued till 5.00 pm. Election officials in Surat said the turnout was low in the morning, but more people came to vote in the afternoon. In the 2012 election, BJP’s Raja Patel had got 1.19 lakh votes, while Congress’s Satish Patel secured only 52,200 votes. For the bypoll, the BJP had fielded Raja Patel’s daughter Jankhana, while Congress named three-time municipal councillor Dhansukh Rajput, a migrant from Uttar Pradesh, as its candidate. There were as many as 24 Independents in the fray.

On Tuesday, Gujarat Congress launched `Atulaya Ahmedabad’ a vision document as its election manifesto for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation election.
Ahmedabad City Congress President Chetan Raval, along with other senior party leaders released the vision document in which the party has accused BJP of failing to provide even basic amenities to Amdavadis and syphoning crores of rupees through corrupt practices.
The Congress in its manifesto has said that apart from creating world class infrastructure for the city of Ahmedabad, they will not be levying any new tax in the corporation if they come to power.
Gujarat Congress party said that the BJP has failed to implement the promises made by the party in their last manifesto.
Highlights of Congress manifesto are following:
* No new tax in next five years.Property tax structure to be rationalized.
* Details of contractors, officers and works to be shared online to prevent corruption.
* AMC run Model school in each ward.
* Amdavad bus app to provide details of city buses and their locations.
* 800 tonne waste process capacity.
* Three new AMC run hospitals.
* Old gutter lines to be replaced with newer ones.
* Pipelines for drinking water to replace tanker raj.
* New hygienic toilets.
* Development of Sidi Saiyad Jali area as new city chowk.
* Four decorative gates at four entrances of Ahmedabad city.
* 11 new bridges at Anjali cross roads, Income tax cross roads, Old Vadaj junction, Paldi Junction, Jalaram railway crossing, Mansi junction, Parimal Garden, Panjrapol Junction, Viratnagar Junction, Naroda Railway Crossing, Satadhar char rasta.
* Toll free line for each of 48 wards to clear the complaint in 48 hours.
* Review of existing BRTS routes.
* Clean RO water.
* Green cover to be increased upto 12% through tree plantation drive.
* Slum free city, foot over bridges, heritage protection, libraries, urban health center per 30,000 population, referral center per 2 lakh population, review of high rates of treatment in some AMC run hospitals.
