SURAT: In all, 34 candidates from different political parties and independents have filed nominations for Choryasi assembly by-elections scheduled for January 21. The seat fell vacant the after death of Raja Patel, BJP MLA on September 9 last year. Patel died of dengue.
By-Poll election Choryasi Election Live Voting %
On Monday, the last date for filing of nominations, BJP and Congress filed nominations of two candidates each whereas remaining all are independents. BJP has fielded Raja Patel's daughgter, Jankhana Patel, while Congress has named Dhansukh Rajput, a councillor from Bamroli as their candidate.
The scrutiny of nominations will be done on Tuesday, whereas last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 7. Counting of votes will be held on January 24.
District collector's office said that there were 3,91,638 eligible voters for Choryasi seat. There are 2,28,478 male and 1,68,159 female voters. As many as 380 polling stations will be set up at 123 different locations which include 327 in urban and 53 in rural areas.
