Live Voting % Choryasi By Election-
Choryasi recorded 38.04% turnout
The voting was carried out at 380 polling booths and over 2,202 election officials were deployed. The voting started at 7.00 am and continued till 5.00 pm. Election officials in Surat said the turnout was low in the morning, but more people came to vote in the afternoon. In the 2012 election, BJP’s Raja Patel had got 1.19 lakh votes, while Congress’s Satish Patel secured only 52,200 votes. For the bypoll, the BJP had fielded Raja Patel’s daughter Jankhana, while Congress named three-time municipal councillor Dhansukh Rajput, a migrant from Uttar Pradesh, as its candidate. There were as many as 24 Independents in the fray.

Bypoll to Choryasi assembly seat in Gujarat, which fell vacant after the death of its MLA, will be held on January 21 next year. Polling Date: January 21, Counting of Votes : January 24.

Choryasi assembly constituency has 3.88 lakh voters of whom 80,000 belong to Koli Patel community. Jankhana is a Koli Patel. The constituency also has around 1.80 lakh voters who belong to others states. Jankhana said, "I want to complete several projects that my father had started in many villages but remain unfinished. I want to ensure toilets, drainage and drinking water in those villages ".
As many as 25 of the 27 candidates currently in the fray for the upcoming Choryasi Assembly bypoll are Independents, mostly Muslims. There are around 35,000 Muslims among 3.91 lakh voters, including a large number of migrants. The unusually large number of Muslim candidates, as may as 18, has left Congress worried. The party was banking on the migrant voters and the Muslims to pip BJP in the bypoll.
The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of sitting BJP MLA Rajendra Patel on August 5.
The notification for the election will be issued on December 28 and the polling will be held on January 21, according to a statement issued by Election Commission here.
Counting of votes will take place on January 24.
