Karnataka Bye Election
A by-election (also spelled as "bye-election"), also known as a special election, is an election held to fill a political office that has become vacant between general elections. Usually, a by-election occurs when the incumbent has died or resigned. It may also occur when the incumbent becomes ineligible to continue in office, for example because of a recall, ennoblement, a serious criminal conviction, failure to maintain a minimum attendance, bankruptcy or mental incapacity. List of Chief Ministers of Karnataka
The Chief Minister of Karnataka is the chief executive of the south Indian state of Karnataka. As per the Constitution of India, the governor is a state's de jure head, but de facto executive authority rests with the chief minister. Following elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, the state's governor usually invites the party (or coalition) with a majority of seats to form the government. The governor appoints the chief minister, whose council of ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly. Given that he has the confidence of the assembly, the chief minister's term is for five years and is subject to no term limits.

COPS Karnataka Opinion Poll Latest Election Survey 2017 2018 Live Results
Find COPS Karnataka Opinion Poll Latest Election Survey 2017, by COPS for Karnataka Assembly Polls 2017, Karnataka opinion poll party wise seat/vote share, Karnataka polls 2017, what is the opinion poll of Karnataka assembly election 2017 2018, who will win Karnataka assembly election 2017 2018
New COPS survey gives 113 seats to BJP
- In what is being seen as a counter to the Congress- sanctioned pre-poll survey by C-Fore that put the ruling party ahead with 120-132 seats as opposed to the BJP getting only 60-72 seats in 2018 elections, the BJP has hired another poll survey agency Creative Center for Political and Social Studies (COPS) which puts the opposition BJP with 113 seats. This is the exact number of seats the BJP had won when it swept to power in 2008 under the stewardship of former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
- COPS has given the ruling Congress-led Siddaramaiah government 86 seats and the JD(S), 25 seats.
- COPS conducted the survey in July 2017, at a time when there was unrest in the coastal region triggered by the alleged murder of a RSS worker by political rivals which led to protests and demands by the BJP for a ban on the SDPI and KFD.
- The survey states that if a poll were held today, the BJP would get a simple majority.
- COPS predicts that the Congress would, however, win a majority of the seats in the Old Mysuru region, winning 21 of 37 seats and could win 16 of the 32 seats in Bengaluru region, leaving the BJP with 14 and the JD(S) with 2.
COPS Opinion Poll Karnataka 2017 | |
Party | Vote(%) |
INC | 86 |
BJP | 113 |
JD(S) | 25 |
- COPS has however predicted that the BJP will make a clean sweep in Coastal, Mumbai Karnataka and Hyderabad-Karnataka regions. Of the 40 seats in HK, it will be 25 seats for BJP; in Mumbai-Karnataka, out of 56 seats, BJP will win 36. However, in Central Karnataka, both ruling Congress and BJP could win an equal number of seats.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s party Janata Dal (Secular) took everyone by surprise on Saturday by announcing candidates for 126 Assembly seats even before the election schedule for Karnataka is announced by the poll panel.
-
The first list, however, features names only from the JD(S). Its alliance partners BSP and NCP are likely to be accommodated in the second list as the JD(S) will only contest from 58 of the remaining 98 seats. Karnataka Assembly has 224 seats.
-
As promised by Gowda earlier, the first list has only two names from his family. The party’s state chief and former CM HD Kumaraswamy will contest from Ramanagara and his elder brother HD Revanna will contest from Holenarasipura. Both are sitting MLAs.
-
Names of Gowda's grandson Prajwal Revanna and daughter-in-law Anitha Kumaraswamy's are missing from the list. However, the party has not declared a candidate for Channapatna, from where Kumaraswamy's wife is likely to contest.
