24 Feb 16 :BJP looking at alliance with regional parties in assembly elections: Ghosh - BJP state president Dilip Ghosh Tuesday said the party would contest all the 294 seats in the upcoming assembly elections, schedule of which is likely to be announced in the first week of March. Ghosh also said that talks regarding the formation of an alliance with regional parties at some places were on, though he did not elaborate on this.
13 Feb 16: Mamata to roll out poll campaign strategy, welcome new entrants - Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is likely to roll out her poll campaign strategy for the ensuing Assembly elections in West Bengal today, welcoming a number of new entrants from different walks of life into the party fold.According to Trinamool sources in the national capital, Ms Banerjee, also the state chief minister, will discuss her poll strategy at the governing council meeting of the party and hand over the party flag to several'newcomers' in the presence of senior leaders, including ministers, MPs and MLAs.Ms Banerjee is in favour of starting the campaign bandwagon statewide from February 15 and it may continue till April 21

When the Opposition is warming up for the 2016 assembly polls, BJP president Amit Shah has pushed the goal-post in Bengal a little further — to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. BJP chief strategist announced in Howrah on Tuesday that his party has set its sights on the next Lok Sabha polls, fuelling speculation that the saffronites may not go the whole hog against Trinamool in 2016.
1 July 2015: Asansol civic polls on October 3
The civic polls in 106 wards of Asansol Municipal Corporation will take place on October 3. The elections to Asansol and Kulti civic bodies have remained due since last June. Polls to Jamuria and Raniganj municipalities are also due.
The state will merge the Asansol Municipal Corporation, Kulti Municipality, Raniganj Municipality and Jamuria Municipality to form a mega civic body like Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
26-May-15: ‘Need time till Nov. 30 to conduct polls’:
While the Supreme Court gave the West Bengal government time till June 30 to reconstitute seven municipalities so that the State Election Commission (SEC) could hold polls for them, State Election Commissioner S. R. Upadhyaya on Monday asked for time till November 30. The time is required as per the rules of conducting elections in the civic bodies, the SEC officials said.

Sovan Chatterjee on Friday took oath as the mayor of Kolkata for a second successive five-year term at the historic Town Hall here.
Chatterjee, who has already served his first five-year innings from 2010-15, was renominated for the post by his party, Trinamool Congress, which achieved a landslide win in the recent Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls.

27-Apr-15 BJP calls 12-hour Bengal shutdown on April 30
ArrayKolkata, The BJP on Monday called a 12-hour shutdown in West Bengal on April 30 to protest against the "violence" and "rampant unethical practices" resorted to by the ruling Trinamool Congress during the recent civic polls.
The call coincides with the 12 hour statewide general strike called by the main opposition Left Front. Several trade unions, including those affiliated to constituents of the Left Front and the Congress, have also called a general strike in Bengal on that day when they have also called a 24-hour nationwide transport strike.
Giving the shutdown call, state Bharatiya Janata Party president Rahul Sinha said his party was protesting the "foul play" by the Trinamool in the civic polls.

Kolkata, West Bengal's opposition Left Front on Sunday called a statewide 12-hour general strike on April 30 in protest against what it called "destruction of democracy" by the ruling Trinamool Congress in the recent civic polls.Accusing the Trinamool of indulging in "rampant rigging" and "violence", LF chairman Biman Bose said police were reduced to a "lame duck status" as the ruling party let loose "anti-social elements" to deny people their right to vote freely.

Kolkata, (IANS) Alleging a "secret understanding" between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday said the delayed and inadequate sanctioning of central forces for the recent municipal polls was an indicator of the covert links.
"Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress have a secret understanding. These two parties had been in an alliance in the past. Now, though the Narendra Modi government has a clear majority in the Lok Sabha, it is in a minority in the Rajay Sabha. So it needs parties like the Trinamool to pass bills," Yechury told media persons here.
