Congress Candidate list for KMC elections 2015

KOLKATA: Kolkata police officials need to take extra guard in the port area till the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections are over as Mohammed Moktar, the Congress in the area has been pitted against Samshuzzaman Ansari the Trinamool Congress candidate and a member, mayor-in-council in the KMC.

Moktar and Ansari are known rivals in the area and whenever they fight in an elections police in the port area take extra caution despite the fact that Ansari happens to be father-in-law of Moktar's daughter. State Pradesh Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury announced Moktar's name at a press conference at the state PCC office.

Latest List of candidates:

Chowdhury announced names of 117 candidates of 144 candidates for the ensuing KMC elections. A quick glance at the list reveals that majority of the Congress candidates are new faces who will take on experienced, sitting Trinamool Congress councilors As a reverse tactic to prevent sitting Congress councilors from joining the rival camp, the PCC president on Saturday presented Aurangzeb Khan, a Trinamool Congress leader in ward 55 who joined the Congress . Khan who has been has been given a Congress ticket from ward 55 for the ensuing KMC elections, on Saturday joined the Congress municipal party with 500 Trinamool Congress supporters, claimed Chowdhury. Arun Das, the existing councilor recently joined the Trinamool Congress from the Congress municipal party in the KMC.

Barring this, there was no surprises in the Congress list of candidates provided by the PCC chief. Chowdhury demanded that the KMC elections be held with the help of central forces. "I strongly demand presence of central forces as without this force, there could be no free and fair elections. The ruling party has planned to rig the KMC polls by keeping its own police force at the booths," Chowdhury said on Saturday.
