About the Constituency:
Formed prior to the elections of 1952, the parliamentary constituency of Mainpuri is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state of Uttar Pradesh. According to Election Commission of India 2009 data the total electorates in the Mainpuri Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 21) were 1,399,259 of which 621,365 are females and 777,894 are males.

It has five Vidhan Sabha segments with one of being reserved for the SC category.

About Mainpuri:

It represents the Mainpuri District which is a part of the Agra Division. The district has three tehsils covering a total area of 2,745 sq km and Mainpuri City is the center of administration. Hindi is the official language of the area. Agriculture is the most important economic activity of the area. Several State Highways of Uttar Pradesh pass through here.

 

Demographic pattern:

The census data of 2011 states that Mainpuri District is the 255th most populated district of the country with a total population of 1,868,529 of which 53% comprises of males and 47% comprises of females. With a sex ratio of 868 females per 1000 males, it has a child population of 15.22%. The average literacy rate is 76%, with male literacy being 84.53% and female literacy rate being 66.30%. The district has a population density of 677 inhabitants per sq km and the population growth rate from 2001 to 2011 was 17.02%.

Mulayam Singh Yadav stronghold and SP will likely win it again with a big margin.

About the Constituency:
Situated in the Jaunpur District, Machhlishahr or Machhali Shahar is one of the 80 parliamentary constituencies of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The total number of electorates in the Machhlishahr Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 74) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports is 1,751,074 of which 935,295 are males and 815,779 are females.

 

 Assembly Segments:

It was formed in 1952, reserved for the SC category and has five segments of the Vidhan Sabha. It is a nagar panchayat located towards the south eastern part of the state with an average elevation of 84 m.

About Machhlishahr:

The official language here is Hindi. The city has several prominent educational institutions including the Prasad Academy where impoverished children are educated free of cost. The city belongs to one of the 250 most backward districts of India and receives support from the government. Agriculture is the primary economic activity and dairy farming is also popular. NH-231 passes through the district and town.

Demographic pattern:

As per the report of 2001 census, the town has a total population over 23,000 of which 51% comprises of males and 49% comprises of females. About 18% is under the age of six and the sex ratio here is over the national average of 940 females per 1000 males. With an average literacy rate of 57%, Macchlishahr has a male literacy rate of 59.5% and a female literacy rate of just 49%.

Present Political Scenario:

Three Cornered fight
Former Apna Dal leader Ram Charitra Nishad has been nominated from here. This constituency will see a three cornered fight between SP, BSP and BJP.


Only hope for BJP
BJP can still win this seat if it can get the crucial support of Khateek voters who seem to be shifting allegiances in the 2014 polls.

Formed prior to the 1957 elections, the parliamentary constituency of Hardoi is one of the 80 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh. According to Election Commission of India 2009 data the total electorates in the Hardoi Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 31) were 1,416,949 of which 633,185 are females and 783,764 are males.

It represents the Hardoi Distict which is under the Lucknow Division with the headquarters located in Hardoi City and covers an area of over 5980 sq km. It has 5 tehsils and consists of over 2000 villages. The Sandi Bird Sanctuary is located here.

 

Demographic pattern:

As per 2011 census, it has a population of 4,092,842 of which 2,191,242 are males and 1,901,403 are females. The district has a population growth rate of 20.44% and a population density of 684 per sq km. The sex ratio is 868 females for every 1000 males and a child population of 652,496. The average literacy rate is 64.57% with male and female literacy rates of 74.39% and 53.19%.

Samajwadi Party advantage

Usha Verma of the Samajwadi Party, who is also the sitting MP, has strong pockets of influence in this parliamentary seat and also there are hardly any negatives against her, so SP has a clear advantage.

About the Constituency:
Jaunpur is one of the 80 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, comprising of five Vidhan Sabha segments and came into existence in 1952. The Jaunpur Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 73) consists of 1,662,127 number of electorates in totality, of these 896,528 are males and 765,599 are females as the Election commission of India 2009 data suggests.

About Jaunpur:

Jaunpur city is the district headquarters of the Jaunpur District with five rivers, Basuhi, Gomti, Pili, Sai and Varuna flowing through it. It has a total area of over 4,000 sq km and an average height of 82 m. The district has over 200 colleges offering higher education opportunities and over 300 schools. The Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University is located here. Agriculture, including rice, maize, wheat, potato and chickpea cultivation along with cattle rearing and dairy farming are the primary economic activities.


It is one of the country 250 backward districts and receives funds from the government. Cotton mills, manufacturing of oils and attar as well as carpets and furniture also add to the economy of the area. The National Highway NH-56 and the State Highway SH-36 are the major pathways to nearby cities.

Here BSP’s Dhananjay Singh (sitting MP), who is widely seen as a sort of Rajput Robinhood was ahead in the race until now.


Secular card Played by the Congress
Congress has nominated popular Bhojpuri Superstar, Ravi Kishen from this seat who may also dent the ‘secular’ votes adding drama to the contest.

BJP’s biggest concern
There are two X factors that will decide BJP’s fate here – 1) Swami Chinmayanand, a former minister of state for Home in the Vajpayee government and four time MP (including Jaunpur in 1999) can create mischief for BJP although his clout has decreased considerably over the last decade and 2) support of local BJP leaders like Seema Dwivedi, the Mungra-Badshahpur MLA and 2009 MP contestant who is upset at being denied ticket.

About the Constituency:
The Parliamentary Constituency of Ghosi is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state of Uttar Pradesh formed before the 1957 elections. 1,693,231 is the total electorate count in the Ghosi Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 70). Out of these 909,640 number of electorates are males and the remaining 783,591 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest.

 About Ghosi:

Ghosi is a nagar panchayat and a town in Mau district in UP. This district covers an area of 1,713 sq. km. Ghosi is located in the eastern part of the state at an average elevation of 68 meters and is 129 km far from Varanasi. Hindi is the official language of this town with Urdu and Bhojpuri being widely spoken by the residents. The economy of this city is primarily dependent on agriculture and business. Ghosi has a number of notable schools and colleges, both government and private. Ghosi is accessible through the National Highway NH 29.

 

Demography:

According to the census data of 2001, Ghosi has a total population of 35,833 of which 52% are males and 48% are females. It has a sex ratio of 978 females per 1000 males. 19% of the population is below the age of six. The city of Ghosi has an average literacy of 67% with male literacy at 78% and female literacy at 57%. 58% of the total population is Muslim followed by 41% of Hindus.

Tactical move by the BJP
It seems to be a calculated risk taken by Amit Shah to give ticket to Rajbhar instead of other contenders like Vijay Pratap Singh. Thakur votes will be crucial .
