Cameron hopes for majority, still open to coalition

British prime minister and Conservative Party leader David Cameron has insisted that his party can secure a majority vote in Thursday's elections, but at the same time opened the door for coalition strategising.
"I am still fighting for a majority. We can achieve an overall majority that gives Britain the strong stable government," Efe quoted Cameron saying on Wednesday at a campaign rally.

General Election 2015: Sixty per cent of people want voting reform, says survey

A majority of people support electoral reform amid growing fears of chaos after Thursday’s general election, according to a survey for The Independent.
Politicians in all parties admitted there will be a renewed debate about voting reform if the first-past-the-post system produces the stalemate suggested by the opinion polls. Only four years ago, Britain voted by 68 to 32 per cent in a referendum against a switch to the alternative vote system.

How The May 7 Election Could Break UK, EU And The Global Economy

As the May 7th British election approaches, a worrisome scenario about the outcome in the polls emerges: that neither of the two major parties will win enough votes to form a government.
This means that the balance of power is tipping to smaller parties with nationalistic and local agendas. That’s scary, as the country runs the risk of being ruled by a multi-party coalition government with an anti-UK, anti-EU and anti-global agenda.
This sort of agenda could spell trouble for UK, EU, and eventually the global economy in a number of ways.

Labour gets ready for second 2015 general election

SENIOR Labour figures are privately discussing a strategy for a second general election later this year.
Scotland on Sunday has learned that party officials are looking at a second vote, which one MP described as a “very likely scenario”, in the wake of Ed Miliband’s confirmation last week that he would not form a Labour government if it required a deal with SNP MPs. They believe the only way to avoid a second election is if Labour can somehow emerge as the largest party and form a minority government. In order to do this they need to prevent a total wipeout of their 41 seats in Scotland by the SNP.

The Sun and its sister paper, the Scottish Sun, have endorsed different parties in the general election.
Its London-based version urged readers to back the Conservatives and "stop the SNP running the country".
By contrast, the Scottish Sun said the Tories did not understand Scotland and praised SNP leader, Nicola Sturgeon, as "a phenomenon who inspires people".
It comes as one opinion poll suggested the SNP could be on track to win all of Scotland's 59 seats.

They are both part of the newspaper group News UK, formerly called News International, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

David Cameron turned on the passion today in a “bloody lively” fightback aimed at saving his election hopes.
In a change of style, the Prime Minister spoke in shirt sleeves, with no notes or a microphone. “If I’m getting lively about it, it’s because I feel bloody lively,” he told a business audience in London.

Election 2015: Will half of Scotland vote for the SNP? Their poll lead has only strengthened

The SNP haven’t polled below 43 per cent, or Labour above 30 per cent, in nearly three months. This isn’t a 2,000-word take on the SNP. We have written in some detail on the party: first, shortly after the referendum when they started surging in the polls; then in Feburary when it seemed like they might win more than 50 seats; and more recently from various angles: the incongruous predictions of academics; recent Ashcroft polls and the 13 closest Scottish seats.
This is a quick overview of recent polls north of the border, in the wake of the Times/YouGov’s most recent survey earlier this week and Panelbase’s latest for the Sunday Times today.
Two things stand out. First, the SNP now haven’t polled below 43 per cent – or Labour above 30 per cent – in nearly three months. Second, the SNP are now polling closer to 50 per cent than 40 per cent, while Labour are drifting towards 25 rather than stabilising at around 30.

In UK election, Scottish nationalists may win 53 of 59 Scottish seats: The Times

The Scottish National Party may win 53 out of 59 Scottish seats in the British parliament, according to calculations made by The Times newspaper based on a YouGov poll showing an increase in support for the nationalists ahead of the May 7 election.

Though Scots voted to stay part of the United Kingdom in a Sept. 18 referendum, the Scottish National Party (SNP) is hoping to harness a surge in support to win more powers from the government in London, possibly from a kingmaker position.

If there was a uniform swing in accordance with a poll showing a rise in support for the SNP, Labour would only win 4 of the seats in Scotland and the Liberal Democrats one, according to The Times.

Uk opinion poll: Labour takes lead in opinion polls

Three polls put Ed Miliband’s party ahead of Conservatives, with large number of people saying he is doing a better job than David Cameron. A Panelbase poll put Labour six points ahead of the Tories while it recorded a four-point lead in a Survation poll for the Mirror and a three-point one in a TNS poll.

A larger number of people also thought Miliband was doing a better job than David Cameron for the first time, according to Survation. The Labour leader edged ahead of his rival when it came to the net score for people saying he was doing a good job (3.2%), compared with those saying he was doing a bad job (2.3%).
However, Cameron still retained a 12-point lead on the question of who would make the best prime minister. The Survation survey found overwhelming public support – 59% to 16% – for Labour’s pledge to abolish non-domicile tax status.
