About the Constituency:

Formed prior to the 1951 elections, Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 39 parliamentary constituencies of the state of Tamil Nadu. The total number of electorates in the Pollachi Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 21) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,017,811 of which 511,106 are males and 506,705 are females. It comprises of six legislative segments with one being reserved for the SC category and 1,017,811.

One of the 39 parliamentary constituencies of Tamil Nadu, Thoothukudi Lok Sabha Constituency was formed after the 2008 Presidential Notification of delimitation of constituencies. The total number of electorates in the Thoothukkudi Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 36) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 949,153 of which 465,657 are males and 483,496 are females. It has 949,153 voters and comprises of six legislative assembly segments of which one is for the SC category.

One of the 39 parliamentary constituencies of Tamil Nadu, Theni Lok Sabha Constituency was formed post the 2008 delimitation of parliamentary constituencies and has six Vidhan Sabha segments, four belong to the Theni District and the rest two belong to the Madurai District. According to Election Commission of India 2009 data the total electorates in the Theni Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 33) were 1,074,931 of which 538,300 are females and 536,631 are males. Two of these constituencies are reserved for the SC category and the total number of electors under this constituency is 1,074,931.

About Thanjavur:

Thanjavur District lies in the eastern region of the state over area of about 3,400 sq km. It has eight talukas with its headquarters located in the city of Thanjavur. Tamil is the official language of the area.

 As per the census of 2011, the district has a population of 2,495,890 with male and female population of 1,182,416 and 1,223,474 respectively. Over the last decade, the district had a population growth rate of about 9% and currently has a population density of 705 inhabitants per sq km. The sex ratio here is 1035 females per 1000 males and about 10% of the population is under the age of six. The average literacy rate is 83% with male and female literacy rates of 90% and 77% respectively. Economically, agriculture is the primary economic activities of the district mostly of paddy crops and the district is the largest producer of coconuts. The National Highways, NH-45C, NH-67 and NH-226 pass through the district connecting it to several nearby cities.

About Tirunelveli:

The city of Tirunelveli is the center of administration of the Tirunelveli District, located about 700 km from Chennai. With an average altitude of 48 m, the city is located on the banks of Thamirabarani River covering an area of 109 sq km.

As per the India census data of 2011, the metropolitan population of Tirunelveli is 499,000 with a 53% female majority. It has a sex ratio of 1023 females per 1000 males and a child population of 43,000. 14% of the population belongs to the SC category and 0.46% belongs to the ST category. Hindu is the predominant religion here and Tamil is the official language of the people. Christianity is also pretty prevalent here. The average literacy rate of the city is 91% with male and female literacy rates of 95% and 87%. It is the center of education in the region and several prominent educational institutions are located here. The National Highways NH-7 and its extension NH-7A are connected to this city.
