About Nagapattinam:

One of the 39 parliamentary constituencies of the state of Tamil Nadu, reserved for the SC category, Nagapattinam comprises of six Vidhan Sabha segments. The Nagapattinam Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 29) has a total of 982,352 electorates out of which 488,163 are females and 494,189 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports. It came into existence in 1952 and has 982,000 voters.

About Nagapattinam:

The town of Nagapattinam, or Nagapatnam is the district headquarters of the Nagapattinam District and has a total area of 15 sq km. It lies on the eastern side of the state along the Bay of Bengal about 350 km away from Chennai and it was the most affected area of the state during the 2004 Indian Ocean undersea earthquake. 

As per 2011 census, Nagapatnam has a population of about 103,000 with 52% female majority and 11% child population. The sex ratio here is 1024 females per 1000 males. SCs comprise of 8% of the population while STs occupy 0.7%. An appalling 44% of the population is recorded to have slum dwellings. The average literacy rate is 90%, with 94% male literacy and 85% female literacy. Fishing is an important part of the work culture of the district and trade is flourishing here. Important roads like NH-45A, NH-67, SH-22, SH-23, SH-64, SH-67, SH-147, SH-148, SH-149, SH-150 and SH-151 pass through the area providing an excellent road   network.

About Mayilduthurai:

One of the 39 constituencies of Tamil Nadu, Mayiladuturai or Mayiladuthurai was formed prior to the 1984 elections and comprises of 1,091,519 voters. According to Election Commission of India 2009 data the total electorates in the Mayiladuthurai Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 28) were 1,091,519 of which 540,660 are females and 550,859 are males. It has six Vidhan Sabha segments of which one is reserved for the SC category.

About Mayilduthurai:

The town of Mayilduthurai is located in the Nagapatnam District and is the center of administration of the Mayilduthurai Taluk. It is 281 km from Chennai and 70 km from Thanjavur on the Eastern Coast at a distance of only 25 km from the Bay of Bengal. It has an area of 11 sq km and an elevation of 55 m.

As per the census data of 2001, the town is home to over 84,000 people of which 51% are females and 49% are males. 9% of the population is below the age of six and the sex ratio is 1024 females for every 1000 males. It has an average literacy rate of 80% with 84% male literacy and 77% female literacy. The population is largely Hindu. Tamil, Telegu, Kannada and English are widely used by the people. Primarily an agrarian economy, there are several small scale industries as well. The State Highways SH-23 and SH-64 pass through the area.

With a total number of 1,100,000 voters, Namakkal Parliamentary Constituency is one of the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies of Tamil Nadu and was formed after the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies in 2008 and has six legislative assembly segments. The total number of electorates in the Namakkal Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 16) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,075,526 of which 540,515 are males and 535,011 are females. One each of these segments is reserved for the SC and the ST categories respectively.

About Namakkal:

 The Namakkal District has 4 talukas covering a total area of 3,420 sq km and is at an average height of 220 m. 

The district has a population of about 1,726,601 of which 8.73% is under six years of age. About 51% of the population is male and the sex ratio is 986 females for every 1000 males. Hindus have a majority closely followed by Christians. Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc also reside here. It has an average literacy rate of 74% with male and female literacy at 83% and 67%. Tamil and English are the prevalent languages of the area. There are several prominent institutions in the area and the city has numerous public and private schools. Small scale industries, poultry farming and agriculture are the most common economic activities. National Highway NH-7 connect the district of Namakkal to various other cities.

About Nilgiris:

The Nilgiris District comprises of six talukas with its headquarters in the city of Ooty. It sprawls over an area of 5,352 sq km. Situated completely in a mountain range; it has an average elevation of 2,789 m. It lies on the western border of the state along Kerala. 


According to the India census data of 2011, Nilgiris District has a population of 735,394 of which 48% comprises of males and 52% comprises of females. Between 2001 and 2011, the population decreased at a rate of 3.51% and the population density recorded here is 287 people per sq km making it the second least populous district of Tamil Nadu. 9% comprises of the child population and the sex ratio is 1042 females for every 1000 males. The district has an average literacy rate of 86% with male and female literacy rates being 92% and 79% respectively. Tamil and English are the most prevalent languages here although Badaga is also spoken by the locals. Horticulture and tourism are the primary economic activities here with cultivation of tea, coffee and eucalyptus being common.

The city of Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu and it has a total metropolitan area of 1,189 sq km. It is located on the Coromandel Coast along the Bay of Bengal and is the sixth most densely populated city of the country and is home to over 8,696,000 people with about 4,390,000 males and 4,307,000 females residing here.

The area has a population density of 26,702 people per sq km and the sex ratio here is 981 females per 1000 males. Children comprise about 12% of the total population and Hindus have an 83.3% majority here. It is the world’s 31st largest urban settlement. Tamil and English are the widely spoken languages here. The average literacy rate is 90.35% with male literacy rate being 93.57% and female literacy rate being 87.08%. The National Highways of NH-4, NH-5, NH-45 and NH-205 pass through the metro.
