Present Political Scenario:
Why BJP may emerge as Victorious this time?
Only once we move away from Amritsar, to the second seat of Hoshiyarpur does the rot become visible.
Maybe the price paid for Jaitley’s sojourn in Amritsar is too steep for the party? There are two strong factions in Punjab BJP – the Kamal Sharma faction led by the state unit president and the Ashwani Sharma faction led by the Pathankot MLA – who are always at loggerheads.
The Kamal Sharma faction is close to the Badals and was vehemently opposed to Sidhu’s nomination from Amritsar, so when BJP high-command obliged them, the Ashwani Sharma gang became obviously restless.
In order to placate the second faction (so that all of them would work together for Jaitley’s victory), BJP seems to have made a compromise of sorts by allocating the Hoshiyarpur reserved seat to Vijay Sampla of the Ashwani Sharma faction.
It is a well-known fact that Phagwara MLA Som Prakash was a much more formidable candidate from Hoshiyarpur (Som Prakash, a former DC of Jalandhar and an emerging Dalit face of the BJP had lost Hoshiyarpur LS seat in the 2009 LS Polls (in a Congress wave of sorts) by merely 366 votes.
As a result of all this, Vijay Sampla is struggling in this, otherwise sure-shot BJP seat (it was reported in the local media that Sushma Swaraj backed Vijay Sampla vehemently, so the RSS backing of Som Prakash came a cropper)

About Hamirpur:
As less as 4,54,293 people reside in this district, making it one of the least populated regions in the state. Carved out of the Kangra district in 1972 and now bordered by it, Hamirpur is the smallest district in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The Hamirpur region is famous as a rich educational hub in the state, enclosing top-class institutes and having as high as 89.01% literacy rate.
The economy of the Hamirpur besides being reliant on an agricultural backbone as well as some small-scale industries, is primarily dependent on an expansive tourism sector.
Present Political Scenario:
Hamirpur will see BJYM national president Anurag Thakur defending his family pocket borough, which he should be able to do pretty easily. Congress doesn’t even have a strong candidate to put up against him and is depending on rebel BJP leader, a onetime protégé of former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal (Anurag Thakur’s father) who is also an independent MLA in the current assembly, Rajinder Singh Rana.
BJP had won this seat by a big 72000+ votes in 2009 by taking a lead in 14 of the 17 assembly segments. This time too, Thakur may have go ahead in at least 11 assembly segments ,so it would be a herculean task to defeat him.
