About the Constituency:

Out of the four Lok Sabha constituencies that belong to the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, one of the most politically active seats is Mandi. This seat has captured political attention across the country, as this is the only seat in the state that witnesses a fierce triangular contest between the BJP, Congress and the Left parties. According to Election Commission of India 2009 data the total electorates in the Mandi Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 2) were 1,112,524 of which 545,582 are females and 566,942 are males.

 About Mandi:

 It covers the entire district of Mandi or Mandavya Nagar as it was previously called. The town of Mandi is the administrative headquarters of the district. The district of Mandi is also known as Chota Kashi.  

As per the 2011 Census, as many as 9,99,777 people reside in the Mandi district, making it one of the busiest centres of trade and commerce in this Northern Indian state. In fact, besides agriculture, the tourism sector adds to the massive revenue generated in this district, making it one of the self-sufficient economic units in Himachal Pradesh.
