About Gurdaspur:
Gurdaspur Parliamentary Constituency is one of Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha constituencies and was formed prior to the 1952 elections. The Gurdaspur Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 1) has a total of 1,318,967 electorates out of which 639,971 are females and 678,996 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports.

About Gurdaspur:
The city of Gurdaspur is the administrative centre of this district. It is located in the north-western part of the state on the Amritsar-Jammu Highway Road. The rivers Beas and Raavi flank the two sides of the city which covers a total area of 1,400 sq km.
Gurdaspur has a total population of over 70,000 with a 53% majority of males. The district has a population over 22,00,000. It has a sex ratio of 895 females per 1,000 males. It has a 44% majority of Hindus closely followed by Sikhs at 44%. Punjabi is the official language. With a literacy rate of 82%, Gurdaspur has over 13 institutions offering higher education in the fields of engineering, hotel management and other degree courses.
Most of the economy of the area is dependent on agriculture and food produce. The city has an extensive road network and is served by National Highway NH-15 which connects it to several cities. NH-11 and NH-1 are also connected to Gurdaspur.
