Kerala Parliament constituency list details :-

 

Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India is made up of Members of Parliament (MPs).There are currently 543 constituencies.

 

The maximum size of the Lok Sabha as outlined in the Constitution of India is 550 members made up of up to 530   members representing people of the states of India and Kerala comprises of 10 parliamentary constituencies.

One of the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies which represent the coastal state of Kerala in the Indian Parliament is Alappuzha. 1,147,162 is the total electorate count in the Alappuzha Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 15). Out of these 550,975 number of electorates are males and the remaining 596,187 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest.

About Alappuzha:
The district of Alappuzha, formerly known as the Alleppey district, has the city of Alappuzha as its administrative headquarters.
According to the 2011 Census of India, the Alappuzha district, with a population of 2,121,943, has the highest population density among all districts of the state. Due to its proximity to the sea, the district of Alappuzha primarily rests on agrarian and marine economy, with the tourism sector contributing substantially. Coir manufacturing is the most famous activity in Alappuzha, besides other industries such as handlooms and marine products, among other small-scale industries like matches and mats. Revolving around the Kuttanad region, which is popularly called the ‘Rice Bowl of India’, the Alappuzha district produces fine quality of rice.

Situated in the Ernakulam district of the coastal state of Kerala is the parliamentary constituency of the same name. As one of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in this southern Indian state of Kerala. The Ernakulam Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 12) has a total of 1,023,053 electorates out of which 516,932 are females and 506,121 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports.

About Ernakulam:

The city of Ernakulam is called the ‘commercial capital of Kerala’. The Ernakulam district houses the metropolitan region of Greater Kochin, which is the largest region in the state.

Known for its academic and educational excellence, the district of Ernakulam is renowned for being the ‘first literate district’ of India in the last decades of the 20th century.

It being a coastal district, fishing has remained one of the primary occupations. The bulk of the economic prosperity in this constituency is primarily due to the commercial stability of this financial hub of Kerala. Tourism sector has also flourished in this state substantially, thanks to the exquisite natural appeal of Kochi.

Political Background:

K.V. Thomas of the National Congress remains one of the most important leaders of this constituency, and represented this seat as MP for a number of elections.

About the Constituency:

Following the Delimitation Commission’s Order of 2008 to delimit parliamentary constituencies, a new parliamentary constituency of Chalakudy came into existence in the year 2008. Chalakudy is one of the 20 Lok Sabha seats that belong to the state of Kerala.According to Election Commission of India 2009 data the total electorates in the Chalakudy Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 11) were 1,075,390 of which 545,491 are females and 529,899 are males.

Significance about the assembly Segments:

This Lok Sabha constituency covers portions of the Thrissur and Ernakulam district, as out of the seven assembly segments in this constituency, three assembly segments fall under the Thrissur district while the remaining four are in the Ernakulam district. The Vidhan Sabha seat of Kunnathunad belongs to candidates of the scheduled caste category. The Kaipamangalam assembly segment came into existence as recently as 2008, as per the delimitation of the assembly constituencies.

Chalakudy has a population of 1,14,901, according to the 2011 Census of India. 

Known as the ‘Commercial Capital of Kerala’, the Ernakulam district is the third most populous district in the state. Along with the educational hub that the district of Thrissur is, this parliamentary constituency of Chalakudy is one of the economically affluent zones in the coastal state of Kerala. Ernakulam is the highest revenue-yielding district in the state, owing to the presence of large scale industries. Thrissur is known for the presence of entrepreneurs from the state, who heavily invest in the region.

Spread in the district of  Idukki is the parliamentary constituency of Idukki in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in this coastal state. Painavu is the administrative headquarters of the Idukki district. The Idukki Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 13) consists of 1,062,849 number of electorates in totality, of these 538,230 are males and 524,619 are females as the Election commission of India 2009 data suggests.

Painavu is the administrative headquarters of the Idukki district.With a population of 1,107,453, as per 2011 Census records, and an area of 4,479 sq km, the district of Idukki is the second largest district in the state.

Political Background:

The Idukki parliamentary constituency has had K. Francis George of the Kerala Congress as one of its popular leaders. This seat is a Congress stronghold from its early years.
