The Congress registered victory over the BJP winning four urban local bodies of Rohru, Rampur, Sunni, Narkanda, while the BJP claimed victory in Jubbal and Theog out of eight ULBs elections for which were held here today. Two other seats went to independents.
The Congress own 30 out of 58 seats of ULBs in the district. The BJP bagged 18 seats, while 10 candidates were declared winners as unopposed.
Though the elections were not held on party symbols, the Congress and BJP made claims and counter-claims over the victory on 58 seats of eight ULBs.According to the election officials, Narkanda ULB recorded 79.34 per cent polling, the highest among 48 ULBs.
As many 10 candidates - four in Chopal, two in Narkanda, one each in Rohroo, Jubbal, Theog and Rampur - were declared elected unopposed.In Theog, the Congress claimed that the party won three out of the seven seats.
Its candidates Vivek Thapar, Anil Kumar and Kamla Sharma emerged winners. The BJP claimed its candidates - Shanta Sharma, Sheela Verma, Lalit Kumar and Bandna - were winners.
In Rohru ULB, the Congress claimed victory on four seats while the BJP won one seat. Two other winners were independents.In Rampur, bastion of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, the Congress claimed victory on seven seats while the BJP ended up winning one seat. One candidate was declared winner unopposed.
In Narkanda in Kumarsain segment represented by IPH minister Vidya Stokes, the Congress claimed that it captured seven seats, while the BJP claimed winning one seat.In Kotkhai, the home town of the former horticulture minister Narender Bragta, the BJP and the Congress claimed victory on three seats each, while one seat went to independent.
In Sunni, which falls in the home segment of Chief Minister, the Congress claimed winning three seats, while the BJP claimed to have won two seats.
