The first list of 21 out of the 30 candidates supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party for the March 6 election to the Corporation of the City of Panaji was released on Tuesday by the chairman of the candidate selection committee Narendra Sawaikar.

Panajai Corporation Election Schedule 2016
The released list includes five sitting councillors – Sheetal Naik, Bharti Heble, Shekhar Degvekar, Maya Talkar and Shubham Chodankar – and a co-opted councillor – Menino da Cruz – of the Corporation, while most of the other 15 candidates are new faces.

The names of remaining nine candidates would be released in next two days, as the selection procedure is still on.
Stating that the ‘Panaji First’ panel supported by the BJP would contest the CCP election on the issue of city development, Sawaikar said the BJP is confident of the victory of its panel. He also informed that the electoral campaign of the panel would be headed by city MLA Sidharth Kunkalienkar, as Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will not be participating in the same.
The city MLA said the candidates of the ‘Panaji First’ panel would not be filing their nominations together, but their exercise to file nominations would be spread till February 16, the last date of filing of such nominations.
The former mayor and sitting councillor from Ward 12, Vaidehi Naik is expected to find a place in the second list of ‘Panaji First’, as also the sitting councillor from Ward 24, Diksha Mainkar.Taleigao block president of BJP Dattaprasad Naik was also present at the press briefing.
