The High Court agrees to hear their plea today.
JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, facing charges of sedition as well as a lookout notice issued by the Delhi Police, moved the Delhi High Court on Tuesday seeking their protection before they surrender in the case, in order to prevent any untoward incident.
The petition of the two students was mentioned for urgent hearing by their lawyers before a Division Bench presided over by Justice B.D. Ahmed on Tuesday morning. The Bench agreed to hear the plea later on Tuesday after the lawyers said the students were willing to surrender.
Five students, including Umar and Anirban, accused of sedition in connection with an event organised in JNU against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, had returned to the university on Sunday night after remaining untraceable for several days.
