Biennial elections to the State Legislative Councils of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bihar by the Members of Legislative Assemblies (by MLAs).
The term of office of the members of State Legislative Councils of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar elected by the members of Legislative Assemblies (by MLAs) is going to expire on their retirement as detailed below: -
UP Legislative Council polls Live Updates:-
- Polling for 13 Legislative Council seats begins in UP
- SP has fielded Balram Yadav, Jagjivan Prasad, Kamlesh Pathak, Bukkal Nawab, Yashwant Singh, Ram Sunder Das Nishad, Ranvijay Singh andShatrudra Prakash as its candidates.
- BSP has fielded Atar Singh Rao, Suresh Kashyap and Dinesh Chandra for the polls and the Congress has named Deepak Singh. BJP candidates include Bhupendra Singh and Daya Shanker Singh.

The SP has 229 MLAs, BSP 80, BJP 41 and the Congress 29. The rest belong to small parties or are Independents who hold the key.

SP needs votes of 232 MLA's to sail through its eight candidates but there are reports of a bunch of them having decided to cross-vote.
- The BSP has fielded three candidates and has 80 legislators. It needs seven extra votes.
- Congress hopes to get through its sole candidate. It has 29 legislators in the House.
BSP has 80 MLAs in the 403-member Assembly and with 34 first preference votes needed for the victory of a candidate, the party can easily ensure success of its two nominees with 12 votes to spare.
RLD has eight MLAs, has promised to transfer its votes to the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, U.P. RLD chief Munna Singh Chauhan said.
The SP has fielded 7 candidates in the polls for the Upper House of Parliament but its seventh candidate is short of nine first-preference votes for victory.
On the other hand, the Congress, which has 29 MLAs, needs five more votes for victory of its candidate and former Union minister Kapil Sibal.
