Excitement is at its peak for the aspirants of the 2017 elections of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) with the civic election office all set to get the ball rolling on Friday by holding a lottery system to decide reservation for seats.
“The political activities would gain momentum after the reservation for lotteries is done. This is the first official activity by the election office that would set the ball rolling for the elections in 2017,” said NCP leader Subhash Jagtap.

There is 50 per cent reservation for WOMEN in civic bodies. So, in each category as well as electoral panel, half the seats are reserved for women. As per rules, two seats of Schedule Tribe would be reserved in electoral panel of Pune University-Wakdewadi and Kalas-Dhanori, of which the seat in Pune University would be only for women.
Of the 22 seats reserved under Schedule Caste category, the 11 seats reserved for women are in:

The remaining 94 seats of the total 162 would be for open category with 47 seats reserved for WOMEN candidates. Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar said a detailed map of each of the 41 electoral panels would be made public on Monday as per the election commission directions and thrown open for suggestions and objections from citizens till October 25.
As the exercise for the election would also reveal the geographical boundaries drawn in the delimitation process, he said it would give a clear picture to the aspirants, including sitting corporators, on their chances and planning preparations for the election contest.
The lottery would be carried out at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch. For reservation, the PMC has 11 seats each reserved for SC women and men category, one each reserved for ST women and men category, and 22 each reserved for OBC women and men category. However, there would be a total of 94 seats in open category with 47 seats for women and equal number for men.
The rules for the reservations is to keep one seat in 22 of total 41 electoral panel for SC category, while there would be one seat reserved for OBC category in each of the 41 electoral panel.
The delimitation has been done by giving numbers to each electoral panel starting from north and ending in south of civic jurisdiction. The geographical boundaries for electoral panels are based on population ranging from 69,000 to 84,000.
As per the state government decision, the 2017 civic elections will have a four-ward electoral panel as against the two-ward electoral panel followed in 2012 elections.
The number of seats in the PMC has been increase from 152 in 2012 to 162 in 2017, considering the population growth in civic jurisdiction.
