About the Constituency:

The Parliamentary Constituency of Kalahandi is one of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state of Odisha and was formed prior to the 1952 elections. The Kalahandi Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 11) has a total of 1,421,959 electorates out of which 709,360 are females and 712,599 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports.

About Kalahandi:

With its headquarters located Bhawanipatna the district of Kalahandi sprawls over an area of 7,920 sq km. It lies in the southern region of the state and is the 7th largest district of Odisha by area. The prevalent languages here are Oriya, English and Hindi.

With a population density of 199 inhabitants per sq km, it has a population of 1,573,054 and a sex ratio of 1003 females for every 1000 males. It is the 317th most populous district of the country and had a population growth rate of 17.79% over the decade 2001-2011. It has an average literacy rate of 60.22% and is home to several schools and colleges. Agriculture, forestry, small scale industries all contribute to the economy. It receives grants from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme being one of India’s 250 most backward districts.  The National Highways of NH-201 and NH-217 pass through the district.

About the Constituency:

The Parliamentary constituency of Chikkodi in Karnataka comprises eight assembly segments. It is one of the 28 Parliamentary constituencies in this southern Indian state. The total number of electorates in the Chikkodi Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 1) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,284,427 of which 659,813 are males and 624,614 are females.

Out of the eight Assembly segments, Kudachi, Raybag and Yemkanmardi are reserved for candidates belonging to the marginalized sections of society.

About Chikkodi:

Chikkodi is geographically located in the Belgaum District, and covers a part of this district, which is located in northwestern Karnataka. 

As one of the 30 administrative districts in the state, Belgaum has as its administrative seat and its municipal corporation, the city of Belgaum. Belgaum is the fourth-largest city in the state of Karnataka, closely following Bangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, and Mysore. The economy of the Belgaum district, which is known as the ‘Rice Bowl’ or ‘Bread Basket’ of North Karnataka, is mainly reliant on agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits, besides poultry, fish etc. Belgaum is slowly flourishing as one of the prime regions of heavy tools manufacturing. It is famous for housing rich deposits of mineral reserves such as Bauxite, and this has led to the creation of the renowned Indian company Hindalco Industries.

Present Political Scenario:

The Katti brothers are virtually undefeatable here, so BJP has re-nominated Ramesh Katti. The only man who can take him on is small scale industries minister in the state Congress government, Prakash Hukkeri, but he is disinclined to fight an MP election and sacrifice his ministry.

The Parliamentary Constituency of Kandhamal is one of the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state of Odisha and was formed after the 2008 Presidential notification of delimitation of constituencies. The total number of electorates in the Kandhamal Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 13) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,065,279 of which 539,127 are males and 526,152 are females.

 About Kandhamal:

With its headquarters located in Phulbani, the district of Kandhamal was formed in 1994. The district covers an area of 8,021 sq km with an average elevation of 700 m. It is 211 km from Bhubaneshwar. The prevalent languages here are Oriya, English and Hindi.

With a population density of 91 inhabitants per sq km, it has a total population of 731,952 and a sex ratio of 1037 females for every 1000 males. It is the 497th most populous district of India and had a population growth rate of 12.92% over the decade 2001-2011. 52% of the population comprises of the ST category. It has an average literacy rate of 65.12% and has several schools and colleges. Agriculture and handloom are the primary economic activities here. Horticulture is also prevalent here. NH-217 passes through the district placing it on a large network of roads.

Covering the entire district of Chitradurga and a portion of the Tumkur District is the Lok Sabha constituency of Chitradurga. It is one of the 28 Lok Sabha segments in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, and is reserved for SC candidates. 1,534,169 is the total electorate count in the Chitradurga Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 18). Out of these 779,895 number of electorates are males and the remaining 754,274 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest.

Assembly Segments:   

Out of the eight Assembly segments which comprise this constituency, Sira and Pavagada are geographically situated in the Tumkur District, while the remaining are part of the Chitradurga District.

About Chitradurga:

Chitradurga survives on an agrarian economy. However, the government has recognized the Chitradurga district as one of the 250 economically- backward regions of the country. Therefore, it is being funded under special schemes such as the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme. This district is famous for its Chitradurga Fort, which is historically important.

Formed in the year 2008 as per the Delimitation Commission’s orders, the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 28 parliamentary segments which belong to the southern Indian state of Karnataka. The total number of electorates in the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 17) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,364,641 of which 673,121 are males and 691,520 are females.

Eight assembly segments comprise the parliamentary constituency of Dakshina Kannada, out of which Sullia is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes. Before the delimitation of the parliamentary and assembly constituencies in 2008, the assembly segments were scattered across the Udupi and Chikmagalur constituencies, while some were under the erstwhile Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency.

About Dakshina Kannada:

Belonging to the coastal region of South Kanara in Karnataka, this district has a total population of 2,083,625, as per the Census records of 2011. Mainly comprising the Tuluvas, who were the first peoples to settle in this constituency, the district also has other communities like Kulala, Mogaveera, Billava, Bunts, Devadiga, Muslims, Vokkaligas, Holeyas and others. Known as the ‘Cradle of Indian Banking’, this district of Karnataka is one of the most industrialised regions. Besides public and private sector banks, other industries like IT are flourishing in this district. Agriculture, which was once a major economic support, has now been relegated to the background, although fishing continues to be one of the primary occupations in the district, owing to its proximity to the seas.
