 About Gopalganj:
The Gopalganj district was formed in 1976 when it was split from the larger Saran district. The town of Gopalganj is the administrative centre of the district of Gopalganj, which falls in the Saran Division. Though a Congress stronghold in the initial years, Gopalganj has been won by the Samata Party, the Janata Dal and the Rashtriya Janata Dal in the recent elections. A population of 2,558,037 resides in the Gopalganj district, as per 2011 records. This primarily agrarian district has been recognised as one of the 36 districts in the state of Bihar which are economically backward; it is thus being funded under the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme. Six Vidhan Sabha segments constitute the Parliamentary constituency of Gopalganj, out of which Bhore is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste category.

Present Political Scenario:
Why BJP has an chance this time?
Former BSP state unit vice-president Janak Chamar who recently joined BJP has been made the LS candidate from this seat. He represents the newly emerging Dalit face of the party and has a decent chance of posting a victory from here, especially as JDU stalwart and sitting MP Puranmasi Ram has quit the party and created chaos.
