About Medinipur:

The Medinipur Constituency is one of West Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha constituencies and came into existence prior to the elections of the year 1951 and currently has a total of 1,262,983 electors. The Medinipur Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 34) has a total of 1,262,983 electorates out of which 615,364 are females and 647,619 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports. It consists of seven legislative assembly segments, of which one is reserved for the ST category.

About Medinipur:

Medinipur is a city and the headquarters of the Paschim Medinipur, located along the Kangsabati River. It is located at a height of 23 meters at a distance of 30 km from Arabari forest range.

As per the 2011 census data, the total population of Medinipur is about 170,000 of which 85,362 are males and 83,700 are females. About 10% is below the age of six and the sex ratio is 960 females per 1000 males. With an average literacy rate of 90%, the male and female literacy rates are 92% and 83% respectively. Bengali is the official language while English, Hindi, Marwari and Urdu are widely spoken. Several traditional and contemporary centers of education are available here. It features a mostly agrarian economy and also has many businesses in and around the town. Railways are the easiest mode of transport while several state highways connect it to an extensive road network.

The Lok Sabha Constituency of Murshidabad is one of West Bengal's 42 parliamentary constituencies and has six Vidhan Sabha segments. The Murshidabad Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 11) consists of 1,192,899 number of electorates in totality, of these 622,002 are males and 570,897 are females as the Election commission of India 2009 data suggests. It was formed in the year 1951 and has over 1,052,000 voters.

 About Murshidabad:

Murshidabad District is the 9th most populated district of India and its headquarters is located in Baharampur. Murshidabad was the earlier seat of power of the Bengal Nawabs. It is bordered by the Malda District on the north. Bangladesh lies to its east. The total area is 5,320 sq km and the total population is over 7,100,000.

There is a 52% male majority in the area and a district has a population density of 1,334 people per sq km. The sex ratio is 957 females per 1000 males and the average literacy rate is 68%. The district has a 64% Muslim majority. Bengali, Urdu, Hindi and English are widely spoken here. Agriculture and tourism are the major economic activities of the area. Cultivation of crops like wheat, rice and mangoes are common here. It receives the financial aid from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme as it is one of the 250 most backward districts of the country. The road and rail network are connect the district to nearby cities.

About Purulia:

The city of Purulia lies on the northern banks of Kasai River and is well known for its landscapes. It is also the location of the district headquarters of Purulia District. The district stands at an average elevation of 228m and covers an area of over 6,000 sq km.

Purulia City has a population of over 290,000 with around 10% population below the age of six. About 52% of the population is male and the sex ratio of the area is 955 females for every 1000 males. The average literacy rate of Purulia is around 65%. This city has numerous schools and colleges and is the home of the famous St. Xavier School. This city is famous for its Chhau dance and is an important tourist destination and has various waterfalls and hills. Due to high amount of iron in the soil, the major industries in the area are that of steel, cement and power. It is well connected to the cities around through rail and road. National Highway NH-32 and various state highways connect the city to nearby cities.

Out of these 583,292 number of electorates are males and the remaining 525,090 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest. About Raiganj:

Raiganj is a city and the district headquarters of the Uttar Dinajpur District and stands at a height of 40 m. It is home to the second largest church of the country and has a large bird sanctuary.

The city has a total population of about 200,000 of which 52% are males and 48% are females. Children comprise of about 12% of the population and there is a 52% Hindu majority. The sex ratio is 936 females per 1000 males and the average literacy rate of over 75% with male literacy of 79% and female literacy rate of 71%. Bengali, English, Hindi and Urdu are the languages used in the area. There are several schools and colleges in the area and the municipality of Raiganj is divided into 25 wards. The district is one of the 250 most backward districts of India and receives financial aid from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme. The National Highways NH-31 and NH-34 connect the area to a large road network.
