Rahul attacks Modi over costly suits
New Delhi, (IANS) Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Thursday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to bring back black money stashed aboard and wearing costly, personalised fabric suits.
"He (Modi) said he would bring back black money stashed abroad and deposit Rs.15 lakh in the bank accounts of each one of us. But did you get any Rs.15 lakh? He has money to wear suits worth Rs.10 lakh, which clearly indicates how much he thinks for the poor people," Gandhi said.
He was referring to the pinstripe suit worn by Modi during US President Barack Obama's visit which had Narendra Damodardas Modi monogrammed all over it in each pinstripe.
Gandhi was addressing a poll rally for the Congress at Shastri Park in east Delhi's Seelampur area. Delhi goes to polls Feb 7.
He accused the BJP of engineering communal riots and the Aam Aadmi Party of ignoring the poor. He also described both the parties as "two sides of a same coin".
Gandhi said his party was the only one to understand Delhi's need for development must include youth and find place for the poor.
"The reality is that the Congress intends to include the poor in Delhi's growth story. We understand what it means to develop, and we want all to develop, but we also want the poor to be included in that dream. Our youth should feel that Delhi belongs to them as well...their (the BJP and the AAP) real goal is to keep the poor away from development."
Taking a jibe at the AAP, Gandhi said its only goal was to "keep the Congress out of power" in the national capital.
He said the Arvind Kejriwal-led party was one that even failed to retain its associates like Kiran Bedi, who had switched over to the BJP and become the party's chief ministerial candidate.
