After BJP's Swachh Bharat invite, Congress woos comedian Kapil Sharma for Delhi elections
It is raining stars for the Congress party in its run up to the Delhi Assembly polls. On Thursday, veteran actor Raj Babbar conducted a public meeting in various parts of the city on behalf of the party. The Congress has also reached out to former Bollywood actress-turned politician Nagma and cricketer Virender Singh Sehwag to campaign for the party.
The party also wants to invite television actor and comedian Kapil Sharma to campaign for it. The coming weeks will witness the grand old party trying to revive its positioning in the Capital where it suffered a humiliating defeat in the last Assembly polls.
"A large number of people relate to Bollywood stars and cricketers. This is an important time for the party and we are trying to bring as many people as we can to get their support," said a senior Congress leader.
Actor and former party MP Raj Babbar said the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were responsible for the deteriorating situation in Delhi for the past one year. He appealed to all the people to support the Congress to revive the delayed development projects in the city.Click here for Congress first candidates List for delhi poll
"Not only has development work been stalled, the other parties are trying to get support by raising communal issues. The AAP has joined hands with the BJP in splitting the secular forces in Uttar Pradesh to benefit the BJP in North India," said Babbar, addressing people during a public meeting at Uttar Nagar on Thursday.Click here for Complete list of candidates
The veteran actor also said the reason why not a single representative from the minority community could be elected from Uttar Pradesh during the Lok Sabha elections was because Arvind Kejriwal had colluded with the BJP to fulfill its agenda to divide the secular forces.
"The terrible condition of roads in the unauthorised colonies give the impression that these colonies belonged to one of the most backward villages in the country and not in the national Capital," said Babbar.
The Election Commission of India will soon come out with the dates for the Assembly polls in Delhi. The Congress party is also going to release its list of candidates in the comings week.
