Communal violence Bill may be tabled in winter session:
New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs is set to introduce an amended version of the communal violence Bill, which has been hanging fire for the last eight years, in the upcoming winter session of the Parliament. Ministry officials said that hectic preparation was under way to move ahead with the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill and that a final decision will be taken in the next couple of days.
The draft Bill is said to contain provisions of the 'Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill, 2011' prepared by the Sonia Gandhi-headed National Advisory Council (NAC). It proposes to impose duties on central and state governments to exercise power in an impartial manner to prevent and control targeted violence.
The Bill also proposes the constitution of a National Authority for Communal Harmony, Justice and Reparation, set up by the Centre.
