Brazil President invited Narendra Modi to watch FIFA finals.
On his first forigen visit as a prime minister Narendra Modi has been invited for another foreign tour. This time he has been invited by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff to watch the FIFA World Cup 2014 finals. However, there is no confirmation yet as to whether or not Modi has accepted the invitation. Earlier this month, Modi had released commemorative postage stamps on the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He had said that sports bring about a spirit of amity and belongingness among nations of the world.
Had successful and satisfying visit to Bhutan: Sushma
Govt. on Monday described as "extremely successful and entirely satisfying" Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bhutan and said it would strengthen Indo-Bhutan relations. "This visit has been extremely successful and entirely satisfying. It will further strengthen Indo-Bhutan ties," External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told media persons. Swaraj said, during the two-day trip, the prime minister interacted with all the three wings of the democracy in Bhutan - the executive, the judiciary and the legislature.
Modi lays Foundation stone of Kholongchu hydro-power project.
Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone of the 600MW Kholongchu Hydro- electric project, a joint venture between India and Bhutan. The project's foundation stone was laid by Modi electronically from the courtyard of Bhutan's Parliament building after addressing a joint session. Three Hydro-electric projects (HEPs) totalling 1416 MW (Chukha, Tala and Kurichu) are already operational. Three more HEPs [Punatsangchu I (1200 MW), Punatsangchu II (1020 MW) and Mangdechu (720 MW)] are under construction. They are scheduled to be commissioned in 2017-18.
U turn by AAP appreciated Modi's stand on mining in Goa
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks that iron ore from Goa's mines should be utilized in india itself and not to be exported. "AAP Goa appreciates Modi's statement regarding not limiting our mining adventures simply to extract our precious natural resources and bolster the economy of other countries to which they get exported, but to convert iron ore to steel and other finished products that in real terms will give us more jobs and boost our economy," the party said.
Bhutan exempted from any ban govt.
In a significant development seeking to push further the relationship with Bhutan India on Monday announced a number of measures and concessions including the exemption of Bhutan from any ban on export of milk powder, wheat, edible oil, pulses and non-basmati rice. The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to their cooperative partnership and agreed to further promote trade and investment.. In a joint release issued at the end of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to that country, the two sides also noted that security was of mutual interest and "agreed not to allow each other's territory to be used for interests inimical to the other."
