Modi’s during his maiden speech in Lok Sabha says he will try to fulfill all promises made.
- 5:08 pm: Lok Sabha passes motion expressing thanks to the President for his speech and adjourns.
- 5:06 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: I thank the Speaker for permitting me to speak to this House. I have complete belief that this House will cooperate with me in fulfilling the wishes of the people.
- 5:05 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: We need to appreciate the good work done by all the states, so we talk about cooperative federalism. I appreciate advice from all quarters. Democracy needs discussion, not criticism.
- 5:03 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: I welcome that the talk of development has started in the country, when people say Tamil Nadu is better than Gujarat. I want competition between states about progress. I want to hear that states have left Gujarat behind. TN's rain harvesting model is admirable, for instance. So is Chhattisgarh and West Bengal's development efforts on certain fronts.
- 5:01 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: People talk of the Gujarat model. Even two districts do not have interchangeable models in Gujarat. This understanding is why Gujarat has progressed. Another model of Gujarat is we have learned from every good thing in every corner of India.
- 5:00 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Mahabharata is over, but the people have never wanted Pandavas to lose. Victory teaches us a lot, including humility. I assure this House that we will never become arrogant. Regardless of our numbers, I do not want to move ahead without all of you. Not numbers, we want consensus.
- 4:58 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Speaking of the Mahabharata, Duryodhana once said he knew what truth was, but it wasn't in his nature to follow truth and dharma.
- 4:58 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Let us try to dream for the nation and work on it. We might face some difficulties. Some people have called us old wine in new bottle. It is natural for them to remember wine.
- 4:57 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: By 2022, no Indian should be without a house to live in, with electricity, running water and a toilet. Regardless of cost, we should get it done.
- 4:55 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary is five years from now. How do we celebrate this? A major concern of his was cleanliness. We should aim for a clean India by then. In 2022, it will be 75 years of India's independence. A lot of you, including me, were born after Independence. We didn't get a chance to die for the country, it's our chance to live for India.
- 4:53 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: A new movement must begin for good governance. Every citizen must realise this. He must say,"I am serving my country by not throwing trash on the road." The whole country unites on the Cricket field, we need to unite for progress.
- 4:52 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: There was no dearth of freedom fighters since 1857. Gandhi's magic was he turned it into a mass movement. Everyone worked for the country's freedom. We need to make progress a similar mass movement, not a government programme.
- 4:48 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Whether it is Dalit, tribal, poor or marginalised, no change has occurred to their lives. We need to bring them into the mainstream. Muslims remain where they were. We need to focus activities on them and change their lives. If a limb is disabled, the whole body is disabled.
- 4:47 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Only a degree certificate is not enough, a person needs ability to earn a living. We need to balance education with skill development, allow youth to pursue skill training. We need to export our teachers to the world.
- 4:43 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: We need to have "Shrameva Jayate" as our slogan. "Labout alone wins." The image of "Scam India" needs to change to "Skill India". We need to develop entrepreneurship and job skills.
- 4:43 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Respect and security for women should be a priority for Indian citizens. 65 per cent of India is less than 35 years of age. India is the world's youngest country. We need to understand this power. The world will need skilled manpower. China is getting older, we are getting younger.
- 4:41 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: We need to involve the women in our effort to improve the country. We need to worry about the honour of our women. The last few events, in Pune, UP and the drowning of our young students, we need to work to prevent this. I appeal to political leaders to at least stop psychological analyses of rape. We should not play with the dignity of our mothers and sisters.
- 4:39 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: We have not been able to increase protein content in pulses. Can't our scientists find a way to do this?
- 4:38 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Real-time agro data will show where to send what kind of produce. Procurement, reservation and distribution can be modernised and streamlined. Can our agri universities and farmers not be advanced? Can technology not be improved? Soil productivity needs to be improved.
- 4:37 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Distribution by rail is not scientific, perishable goods are not given priority. Real-time data about agro products has not been created. This should be done. The poor should get food to eat at night. It is our joint responsibility whether in power or not.
- 4:35 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: I am trying to respond to those who are asking me how my plans will be achieved. Agriculture university students who go on vacation can do soil testing research in their home villages. It can thus become a national revolution.
- 4:34 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Organic farming can change the lives of farmers in Northeast drastically. Gujarat had experimented with the Soil health Card which shows the health of the farmer's land. This will be very helpful at a national level.
- 4:32 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Sikkim has done an important thing. It will bring pride to India as an organic state. There is a huge demand for organic food in India and abroad. Sikkim's example can be used across India.
- 4:31 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Children in remote villages can be taught through distance education, through satellites. Then no one would would want to leave his village. We should therefore encourage agro-based industries.
- 4:30 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: It is our responsibility to changes the lives of farmers and villagers. How can we do it? To create facilities like that of a city while the soul will be that of a village. To provide them modern facilities, so that villages can contribute to the country's progress, through electricity, broadband connection.
- 4:28 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: So the government's aim will be to help the poorest of the poor. We have always maintained that this is an agrarian country. But can we say that we have changed the lives of our villagers and farmers?
- 4:27 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: This government's priority is the benefit of the most underprivileged, going by the ideals of Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Lohia and Gandhi. The biggest tools for this are education and release from superstition. Then the poor can stand on their own.
- 4:25 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Should government only be for some educated people? Government should be for the poor. The rich can educate their children or getting medical help easily. Where will the poor go? Only the government can help them, listen to them and live for them.
- 4:24 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Sometimes we are influenced by the colour of people's skin. It is time to stare at the world with pride in ourselves.
- 4:22 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: But we have to consider something. India is mentioned sometimes as a large democracy. But isn't it time that the world knew our true strengths as a democracy? It is time to let the world know how big our democracy is.
- 4:21 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: It is a good indication that the hopes of the people have been reflected in the result. The President has appreciated the results of these elections. I, too, congratulate the people for giving a mandate in favour of stability, good governance and progress.
- 4:19 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: The President's speech inspires us to work together in future and to keep our objectives in mind. As long as elections were continuing, we were candidates. But in this House, we represent the hopes of the people.

- 4:16 pm: Modi in Lok Sabha: Several members have made statements about the President's speech. A uqestion has been that I have promised a lot; how will I deliver? This is a legitimate question.
