The Telangana Legislative Assembly election was held in Telangana on 7 December 2018 to constitute the second Legislative Assembly. The incumbent Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Indian National Congress, Telangana Jana Samithi, and Telugu Desam Party are considered to be the main contestants in the election. Four opposition parties in the state, the INC, the TJS, the TDP and the CPI have announced the formation of a 'Mahakootami' (Grand Alliance), with an objective of defeating the ruling TRS in the elections.
Voting is completed for 119 seats in Telangana assembly elections. The elections will decide the political fortunes of 1,821 candidates in the first full-fledged election in India's youngest state.
Total 70% voter turnout is recorded in Telangana.
Over 2.8 crore people are expected to cast their vote in Telangana which will elect a new Assembly on Friday.
The Election Commission has made detailed arrangements for smooth conduct of the polling process in 32,815 polling booths. A total of 280,747,22 voters are eligible to use their franchisees. These include 1,41,56,182 males and 1,39,05,811 females. The voters include 10,038 service voters and 249 foreign Indian voters.
Results for all the five states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh and Telangana will be declared on December 11, 2018.
