Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), State Election Committee has come out with a list of 25 candidates who would be contesting the ensuing election to the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC).
Meanwhile the State Election Commission has issued the election schedule.

Highlights for Imphal Municipal Corporation Elections 2016

1. In Imphal East 9 district and 189 district in Imphal West have been identified as hyper sensitive. In Imphal east 21 have been identified as sensitive and the remaining 36 as normal.
2. The security deployment of armed and unnamed personnel for a polling station will compose of seven personnel including two women police each.
3. Nine out of the 27 IMC wards have been reserved for women.
4. 86 candidates from various political parties are contesting for the 27 seats
5. 128 candidates are in the fray for 53 seats for ward members.
6. BJP and INC have put up maximum candidates of 26 each for councillors, CPI have fielded five candidates, LJP three and JD(U) one with 25 independent candidates also in the fray.
7. The fate of the candidates will be in the hand of 1,75,864 electorates including 91,814 female voters.

According to a notification issued by State Election Commission Secretary Radharani Mutum, the last date for filing nomination papers is May 17 while scrutiny would be done the next day.Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers for the election scheduled on June 2 is May 20.As per the election schedule, voting would start at 8 am and continue till 4 pm.Re-poll, if necessary, would be done on June 4 and the votes would be counted on June 6.

Although, Congress party has already declared that they would not be fielding any candidate in Ward No 26, the party is yet to name its candidate for Ward No 3.
