About the Constituency:
The Jhanjharpur parliamentary constituency is situated in the Madhubani district of Bihar. This district was formed in the year 1972, when it was split from the Darbhanga District. The total number of electorates in the Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 7) according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports are 1,418,977 of which 757,310 are males and 661,667 are females.
As one of the 40 Lok Sabha seats which have been allotted to the eastern Indian state of Bihar, this constituency of Jhanjharpur covers a wide area featuring six assembly segments. Out of these six assembly segments, the assembly constituency of Rajnagar is reserved for candidates belonging to the scheduled caste category. The Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha seat has been a primary stronghold of the Janata Dal party, which has won the seat a majority number of times.

About Jhanjarpur:
The economy in the Jhanjharpur constituency survives on the revenue generated by the famous art forms of Madhubani, which is imprinted as motifs on various materials such as bags, sarees and other materials, and exported to other parts of the world. Despite such rich traditional art being developed in this constituency, the economy of the Jhanjharpur parliamentary constituency is essentially backward, and is being funded under special governmental schemes such as the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme.
A total of 24,102 people comprise the population of the Jhanjharpur parliamentary constituency, as per the 2001 Census records. While 52% of the total population in this constituency is male, females comprise of the remaining 48%. Devandra Prasad Yadav of the erstwhile Janata Dal, and currently of the Janata Dal (United) has remained an MP from this seat for a total of five terms.

The Khagaria district is one of the least populated districts in the state of Bihar, as only 1,276,677 people reside here, as per 2011 Census records. This district is specially funded by the Government of India, owing to its economic underdevelopment. Out of the six Assembly segments which make up this constituency, Alauli is reserved for SC candidates.

One of the 42 parliamentary constituencies of the state of West Bengal, Birbhum city belongs to the Birbhum District. The Birbhum Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 42) consists of 1,221,893 number of electorates in totality, of these 636,373 are males and 585,520 are females as the Election commission of India 2009 data suggests. This Lok Sabha Constituency was formed prior to the 1951 elections and comprises of seven assembly segments of which 2 are reserved for SC. About Birbhum:
Birbhum is an administrative unit of West Bengal with its headquarters located in Suri and Birbhum. It is located on the eastern side of the state of Jharkhand. The district is often referred to as the land of red soil and is 190 km away from Kolkata. It stands at an average elevation of 56 m and covers an area of over 4,500 sq km.
Birbhum has a population of over 3,502,000 of which around 22% lives in urban areas. About 52% of the population is male and the sex ratio is around 956 females for every 1000 males. The average literacy rate is around 70%. Birbhum is the home of world renowned Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan which was established by Rabindranath Tagore. It is recognized for its cottage and textile industries. Birbhum is well connected to cities around the state by trains and the Panagarh-Morgram Highway runs through the area which connects it to NH-2 at Panagarh and with NH-34 at Morgram.

Belonging to the administrative district of Khagaria in the eastern Indian state of Bihar is the Madhepura Parliamentary constituency. It is one of the 40 Lok Sabha seats allotted to this state. 1,508,361 is the total electorate count in the Madhepura Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 13). Out of these 790,185 number of electorates are males and the remaining 718,176 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest.
This constituency, conspicuous by its political importance, has alternated between the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Janata Dal (United) for the last few Lok Sabha elections. Sharad Yadav of the Janata Dal (United) has remained one of the most popular leaders in this constituency, being elected MP four times. The RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav was also an MP from Madhepura. Following the delimitation of the parliamentary and assembly constituencies in the year 2008, six Vidhan Sabha segments comprise this Parliamentary constituency. The district of Khagaria has a total population of 1,657,599, as per the 2011 Census records. The Government of India has identified this district of Khagaria as one of the economically backward districts of the country, thus being covered under the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme.
