Counting of Zilla Parishad elections held on March 18, began on Friday Morning.This is the first time that ZP polls are being held based on partylines and due to this these have become veritable show of strength for all major contenders. While Congress and NCP have kept away from the polls, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Goa Vikas Party are contesting the elections.
Both these parties have formed an alliance and the NCP has extended support to the alliance in some key constituencies.
A total of 149 candidates are contesting for 50 constituencies. While Independents and congress led candidates won in many , BJP Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar-supported BJP candidate Arun Bandkar won by 3200 votes and few other bjp candidates win. The local body polls proved promising for Independents.
