SDMC poll Result: BJP sweeps SDMC mayoral polls
New Delhi: Senior councilor of BJP, Subhash Arya was today elected as the Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation and his party colleague Kuldeep Solanki as Deputy Mayor.
Mr Arya defeated Farhad Suri, of Congress and the leader of the Opposition in SDMC by 19 votes.
Out of the total 101 votes polled, 60 went in favour of Mr Arya while his rival could manage only 41 votes.
For Deputy Mayor’s post Mr Solanki defeated Ms Indu of the Congress by a margin of 38 votes. The Corporation is having a total electorate of 107 votes. Five nominated MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and one Municipal Councillor did not cast their vote.
The nominated AAP MLAs are Pramila Tokas, Narayan Sharma, Gulab Singh, Sahiram and Naresh Baliyan. The nominated members who voted for Mr Arya included Meenakshi Lekhi, Ramesh Bidhuri, Parvesh Verma and Mahesh Giri, all MPs of the BJP and six other councilors
This year it was open category, while last year it was for the reserved category.
