AAP's win 'exceptional triumph', says Manik Sarkar
Agartala, (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Tuesday described as an "exceptional triumph" the AAP's landslide victory in the Delhi assembly polls.
"The Aam Aadmi Party's victory is a blow to the BJP-led government's economic attack on people and communal uprising in their tenure," said Sarkar, a member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist politburo and the chief minister since 1998.
"The AAP's exceptional victory has also established a non-BJP and non-Congress government in the national capital. The electorate in Delhi have formed a stable and alternative government which can rule the capital for five years," he told reporters.
"After the BJP-led government assumed office at the centre, rise of prices of essential items, disinvestment in public sector undertakings, anti-labour and anti-farmer amendments to laws, curtailment in rural job scheme upset the people," he said.
He said the Narendra Modi government also failed to maintain its promises to provide jobs to the unemployed and bring back the black money stashed abroad.
Sarkar hoped the capital will see all-round progress under Arvind Kejriwal.
"The Congress did not take any lesson from its repeated defeats in the elections. The Congress should apologise to the people for the party's corruption and misrule at the centre," he added.
The AAP won 67 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly. The other three were won by the BJP.
