Bring about social revolution in Delhi: Bedi to BJP workers

Kiran Bedi addressing BJP workers on Friday.

New Delhi, (IANS) Former Indian Police Service officer Kiran Bedi, who Thursday joined the BJP, exhorted party workers here Friday to "get into mission mode" and bring about a "social revolution" in the national capital.

Addressing a large gathering of workers at her felicitation ceremony at the headquarters of the party state unit, Bedi spoke more like a chief minister-in-waiting rather than a party leader.

Bedi was accorded a grand welcome at the party office, 14 Pandit Pant Marg, with dozens of bouquets presented to her by senior leaders and office-bearers as the sound of drum beats and firecrackers filled the air.

She spoke the maximum-- for over half an hour and revealed her vision and plan to develop "the heart of the country, Delhi". She said the national capital faced two major problems, women safety and filthy slum clusters.

"Every worker of the party from today onwards will become a social reformer. Get into mission mode because you and me together will bring about a social revolution in Delhi," Bedi said as the crowd cheered, chanted her name and applauded.

Bedi said the workers should start visiting all slum clusters and ensure their cleanliness while the government on its part will replace the shanties with permanent structures in due course of time.

Speaking on the issue of women safety, Bedi said it was the duty of every parent to teach their daughters to be brave and their sons to be responsible.

In order to address the problems of the city and in turn transform it, Bedi said six P's' - parents, politicians, press, police, prosecution and prisons - must work and cooperate with each other.
