Amit Shah says BJP created history in J&K polls, prays for party's success in Delhi
New Delhi: BJP National president Amit Shah on Tuesday applauded the party workers for creating history in the recently concluded J&K polls and wished success for the upcoming Assembly elections in the national capital, saying the people here have high expectations from the 'lotus'.
Addressing party workers at a meeting of office-bearers and leaders of the BJP's Delhi unit, Shah said, “BJP created history in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls and I urge all party workers to start a door-to-door poll campaign in the national capital and ensure that the party gets absolute majority in the Delhi assembly aswell.”
- Amit Shah further said, "Door-to-door campaigning and connections with people personally has been custom in the Jana Sangh and I urge all of you to do the same in Delhi."
“The BJP party workers in entire nation have reposed their faith in Delhi BJP unit now. The BJP will win the Delhi elections for sure. Our competition is not with any other party – our competition is only with ourselves. The BJP worker needs to fight his own languor; once that is successfully defeated, we will only experience victory and no one will be able to beat us,” Shah added while hinting towards the upcoming polls in the national capital.
- Wishing for BJP's success in the Delhi polls, Shah said, “I extend my wishes to all of you (party workers) for upcoming Delhi polls, I pray for your success.”
The BJP chief further said that other states in the country were also looking at Delhi to see the party's result in the upcoming elections.
- "States across the country are looking to Delhi to see whether the BJP will win here. The most interested are those states which will soon have their own assembly elections - Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh," Shah said.
- Shah further said, “We have taken a historical decision for unathorized colonies in Delhi, there are many other such decisions like Jan Dhan and Adarsh Gram Yojana.”
Amit Shah was also felicitated by party workers at the BJP office here. Earlier in the day, in a major relief to Shah, a special CBI court discharged him in the case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing in 2005.
The CBI had charged Shah, the then Minister of State for Home in Gujarat, as an accused in the killing of gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati, who was said to have been an eyewitness to the encounter. The CBI had cited some telephone calls between Shah and two other accused in its case against Shah.
Soon after the court's order was released, BJP chief landed in Delhi office and addressed party workers for the upcoming polls in the national capital. Delhi has been under the President's rule since February after chief minister Arvind Kejriwal stepped down after 49 days in power.
Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung had last month sent a status report to the Ministry of Home Affairs over government formation in the capital after his consultations with leaders of the BJP, Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi. The LG met all the three party leaders separately.
