Another AAP MLA dares Kejriwal, refuses to contest Delhi Assembly polls

The Aam Aadmi Party's preparation for the Delhi polls started on a rough note after party Timarpur MLA Harish Khanna refused to stand for the elections.

"I have some reservations with the way the system works and also the way the party has taken some decisions. You all know who was responsible for us leaving the government but no one was consulted. If I am not able to contribute to decision making in the party then what is the point of me being there. I had written to party leadership on July 6 expressing my inability to stand for elections," said Khanna.

Expressing his anguish, the Timarpur MLA further added, "It is not possible for honest people to work in this system. Fighting an election involves so much expenditure and it is not possible for an honest person to go through that again and again. It is not possible without money and to get that we will have to work like the BJP and Congress."

Khanna is not the first one to have differed with the AAP leadership. Before him Laxmi Nagar MLA Vinod Kumar Binny was expelled from the party for his anti-party activities. However, he maintained that he will continue working for AAP as a party member.

Meanwhile, AAP leaders on Thursday alleged that their party posters were being torn in many areas and that their campaign material is being damaged.

While AAP is intensifying its campaign, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also steadily progressing with its campaign strategy even with no poll date in sight. A day after the state unit of the party held a meeting of its senior leaders, the mahila morcha also launched a campaign to reach out to the women of the city and apprise them of what the party represented.

"The Congress thought that they could go on deceiving the people of the city, as they had been doing for 15 years. They made tall promises which they could not fulfil. Similarly even AAP had promised the moon to Delhiites and did nothing in the 49 days that they were in power, except dharnas. This is not what the people want. We are delivering good governance to them and they believe in that," said Ramesh Bidhuri, BJP MP from south Delhi.
