Delhi assembly polls 2013: Rs 9 crore spent by Congress, BJP, AAP on radio ads.
New Delhi: Out of nearly Rs 15 crore spent by the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party for Delhi elections so far, almost Rs 9 crore has been spent only on radio advertisements. CNN-IBN finds out why political parties are using this medium so extensively.
Nearly 10 million people tune in to FM radio in the national capital every day. But what really goes into making these ads and how is the entire process executed?
As the Aam Aadmi Party communications team brainstorms for a new radio jingle in its office in Kaushambi, the team head, Dilip, says, "We do it all ourselves. The team has to believe in AAP's ethos. We don't want to hire, it has to come from the soul."
For AAP, everything is done in-house. But the Congress and the BJP have outsourced their work to advertising agencies. Only when the ads are cleared by the Election Commission do they reach radio stations and that is where that journey culminates.
It's not just people who drive, but the FM reach all across the city. And maybe the jingles will prompt people to drive up till the polling booth, but a campaign is only as good as its candidate. People are hoping that the best candidate will win the 2013 elections.
