9. 53 pm: Will the Modi factor have an impact?
Prabhu Chawla said that it was unlikely that Narendra Modi would influence the Delhi elections while campaigning because he was more of a national leader and not a chief minister candidate. “BJP needs a face for a CM to beat the Congress,” Chawla said.
9.48 pm: Done everything for Delhi, says Sheila Dikshit
New Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit said it was too early to judge which party will win. She said she wonders how the AAP will provide power at lower costs. “I don’t know about how AAP will lower the power tariffs. Will he provide lesser power leading to backouts?,” Dikshit told CNN-IBN.
She also clarified that she is not scared of the rising onion prices. “When we were in opposition onion prices went up because of a man made shortage. the government did not step in at all,” she said.
She questioned the opinion poll by HT and CNN-IBN that said people were not satisfied with her work. “What is it that people are dissatisfied with? Price rise is everywhere. We have done everything for the city possible, for women and children,” she told CNN-IBN.
9.31 pm: Sushma Swaraj will give BJP better chance, says Prabh Chawla
Prabhu Chawla said that while Arvind Kejriwal will draw votes because of his connect to the middle class, he won’t be able to become CM this time. On the BJP Chawla said, “Sushma Swaraj will be a better option for BJP as she has already won earlier.” To Chawla’s suggestions Sitharamn said she will convey the suggestion to the BJP as he is an eminent journalist.
9. 25 pm: AAP eating away at votes of parties, benefiting Cong
In the last Assembly Elections the Congress had gotten 40 seats, BJP 36 and the BSP 14 out of the 70 seats in Delhi. But this year, the opinion poll reveals, AAP is eating away at the votes, leaving BSP almost nowhere, taking six seats from the Congress and four seats from the BJP. Editor of the New Indian Express Prabhu Chawla said that this will help the Congress. “Earlier anti-incumbency votes would have gone to the BJP. But then now some of it is going to the AAP. So BJP is also no getting enough to win. So it benefits congress,” he said. However, BJP’s Nirmala Sitharaman refuted all such predictions saying such a thing was not to happen as the BJP will get more votes than the Congress
9.15 pm: Only AAP can take on Sheila Dikshit, says Shazia Ilmi Shaizia Ilmi
said that it was only AAP that will be able to take on Sheila Dikshit. “We are the party of the people. We are challenging both the Congress and the BJP. Only AAP can defeat Sheila Dikshit,” Ilmi said.
8.59 pm: BJP, Cong predict win; AAP ready for defeat in maiden poll
When the politicians on CNN-IBN were asked who would win the elections, both the BJP and the Congress said that they will come to power. However Yogendra Yadav of AAP said we are prepaired to lose the first couple of times. “Take my word, BJP will come to power this time. After the elections I can tell you I told you so,” said Sudhanshu Mittal. Meanwhile Ragini Nayak was of the opinion that it was the Congress that will come to power.”The public knows everything. Sheila Dikshit still is the big favourite,” she said. AAP’s Yadav on the opinion polls said, “All opinion polls underestimated new parties.” He said that in two months time much can change. “The question is what will happen two months from now?”
8.50 pm: Sheila Dikshit cleverly takes credit, says Vinay Tewari
Vinay Tewari on CNN-IBN said Sheila Dikshit wrongly takes credit for all the developments in New Delhi. “She is not in control of the police, or land or law and order. She has cleverly taken credit for all the development that has happened in Delhi,” he said.
8.36 pm: Will acute in-fighting in BJP cost the party?
Manini Chatterjee of The Telegraph was of the opinion that it was massive infighting in the BJP that will cost the party. “Vijay Goel jumped the gun by putting up posters of himself as the CM candidate.” Meanwhile, Hindustan Times’s Rajesh Mahapatra said,”The truth is there is no alternative to Sheila Dikshit because she acknowledges the modernization that Delhi demands.”
8.32 pm: Sheila Dikshit still favourite for CM despite anti-incumbency
Despite the fact that there is an anti-incumbency the highest number of voters (29%) in the opinion poll voted for Sheila Dikshit as the Chief Minister. The next favourite was AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal with 22% votes and the lowest votes went to the BJP’s Vijay goel with 18%.
8.29 pm: Delhi elections will be a three horse race
The numbers seem close for AAP, Congress and the BJP. And for the first time it will be a competition among three sides with the introduction of Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party. The survey revealed that 34% of voters still favour the Congress, 28% will voted for the BJP and 20% want to vote for AAP. But the numbers might have a slight change after Narendra Modi was elected the PM candidate of the BJP.
8.20 pm: AAP won’t make difference to power costs
The Hindutan Times – C fore survey that aired out on CNN-IBN revealed that 56% of people think that the Aam Aadmi Party won’t make a difference to power tariffs. Also, 20% think AAP will be voted to power, while the Congress still remains the clear favourite with 34%. Yogendra Yadav was of the opinion that though the numbers are low it is quite impressive that a party that has never contested elections got these many numbers.
8.12 pm: Will Onion prices bring down Sheila Dikshit government
The survey has revealed that 35% of voters are of the opinion that price rise and corruption are according to the voters key issues that will decide the votes this year. Congress member Ragini Nayak says that the story of development taken up by Sheila Dikshit cannot be refuted, “If it is a concern for the aam aadmi then it is a concern for Congress.” With the Assembly elections approaching in New Delhi, Hindutan Times – C fore conducted a poll in the national capital where they asked the voters their opinions on how they planned to vote.
The survey has revealed that 35% voters in Delhi consider rise in food prices as the top issue in their minds: only 7% of them consider corruption to be the biggest issue. When it came to parties the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party were neck-and-neck among young, first-time voters.
