Expressing concerns over rising lawlessness, Delhi BJP on Wednesday demanded immediate and concrete action to ensure safety and security of people of the city. "Lawlessness is rampant in Delhi even as the Chief Minister is expressing helplessness to do anything. The city's Congress government is a mute spectator even as murder, rape, loot, abduction, robbery and harassment of women have become the order of the day," the party said in a statement.

The party accused the Chief Minister of not taking up the issue with the Lieutenant Governor and Police Commissioner despite rise in the incidents of crime in the national capital.

"The criminals are striking at will, killing people and carrying out robberies even in broad day light. The murder of six persons in just two hours in east Delhi a couple of days ago signifies the collapse of law and order. They don't have any fear for the rule of law. The Chief Minister has failed to show any concern on this account," the statement said.

Pointing at lack of coordination between the Delhi government and Home Ministry over the worsening law and order situation, the opposition BJP said every time the Chief Minister is confronted with the question on deteriorating law and order, she either expresses her helplessness or puts the blame on others.

"During Congress rule, Delhi has earned the dubious distinction of being the rape capital of the country. The latest National Crime Records Bureau data confirms this," it said, adding one of the every five rapes taking place in the country is reported from Delhi.

Not only that, Delhi also reports the highest crime rate in the country in the cases of kidnapping and abduction. In incidents of kidnapping and abduction of children, Delhi stands second only to Uttar Pradesh despite enormous difference in population size, the party said.

According to the NCRB, the rate of crime against children was highest in Delhi (75.9 per cent). As per the latest Delhi Police data, around 7,400 vehicles have been stolen from the national capital between January and June this year, it added.
