Slow voting in first phase of UP panchayat polls
Electors can cast their votes on 9th, 13th, 17th and 29th of October in all four blocks respectively.
Votes will be counted on November 1, the official said, adding that election offices in all the districts will work on public holidays as per schedule.
Violence marred the first phase of polling of Panchayat Elections underway in Uttar Pradesh with six persons getting injured in separate incidents of firing and brick-batting.
In Pratapgarh's Raniganj police station area, the tongue of a person, identified as Mushtaq, was cut off after a tiff during polling for post of Kshetra Panchayat member while two persons sustained pellet injuries in a firing incident and were rushed to a hospital in Allahabad, police said.
The presiding officer at a polling station was manhandled by some persons in Etah's Aliganj area, they said.
In Farrukhabad, three persons were injured in incidents of firing and brick-batting among members of rival groups at Mirpur Primary School under Badhpur block.
Polling, currently underway in 73 districts except Gautam Buddh Nagar and Agra, will come to a close at 17.00 hrs.
In the first phase polling today, 93 lakh voters are eligible to cast ballots.
There are 13,194 candidates for post of Zila Panchyat members and 1,00,912 for Kshetra Panchayat members testing their popularity in the elections.
Meanwhile, a report from Muzaffarnagar said over 315 people displaced during the 2013 riots and rehabilitated in Palda village here will be eligible to vote.
Names of more than 315 people of those displaced from Kutba village during the riots in 2013 figure in the voters list. They are eligible to exercise their franchise during the fourth phase polling on October 29, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gyan Prakash Tripathi told reporters.
Hundreds of people who were displaced from Kutba village have resettled in Palda village. Eight persons were killed and many injured in the violence there.
Ghaziabad Panchayat elections will be held in four phases from next month, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 1, the district election officer announced today.
District Election Officer (DEO) Vimal Kumar Sharma told reporters that the Panchayat elections will be conducted in four phases here.
In the first phase, aspiring candidates from Loni-block can file their nomination on September 28 and 29.
In second phase, nominations can be filed from October 1 to 3 in Muradnagar-block, he said.
Candidates of Razapur-block can file their nominations on October 6 and 7 in the third phase of the elections and finally in the fourth-phase, candidates from Bhojpur-block can file their nominations on October 9 and 10, Sharma said.
