Punjab civic polls: Candidates of BJP & Congress file nomination papers on last day, Punjab civic polls 2016, Punjab Municipal Corporation elections 2016
On the last day of filing of nomination for the Municipal Corporation elections on Tuesday, 16 candidates of the BJP, 26 of the Congress, SAD candidates along with several independent candidates submitted their papers. Rebel candidates from both the BJP and Congress too filed their nomination as independents. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done on Wednesday and the final list of candidates will be displayed. The elections are scheduled to be held on December 18.
All 26 candidates of the Congress filed their papers on Tuesday. Congress candidate from ward number 18 Devinder Singh Babla owns assets worth Rs 17.32 crore, including immovable property worth Rs 16.18 crore which is among the highest. He also owns several weapons, including .30 BA Rifle, .30 bore pistol and .12 bore DBBL gun. His wife has declared assets worth Rs 5.01 crore. Babla owns five residential properties two in Mohali and one each in Kansal, Chandigarh and Gurgaon. He also has a share in six commercial properties in Chandigarh.
Another Congress candidate, H S Lucky, who is contesting from ward 1 comprising Sectors 1 to 11, declared assets worth Rs 7.50 crore. He is the owner of three vehicles — Scorpio, Fortuner and i20. His wife has assets worth Rs 24.63 lakh. As Lucky filed nomination, BSP candidate Ksheetij decided not to file nomination from the ward in his support. SAD candidate Inderjeet Kaur Kang declared assets worth Rs 6.56 crore. Among others who declared high assets is incumbent Congress councillor Subhash Chawla who declared assets worth Rs 4.29 crore. Former mayor Poonam Sharma has declared assets worth Rs 6 crore.
A total of 16 candidates of the BJP filed their nomination papers on Tuesday. The remaining had filed nomination on Monday. Among those who filed nomination, Rajesh Gupta, who is seeking election from ward 16 including sectors 20 and 33, declared assets worth Rs 4.03 crore. The candidates also started campaigning in their wards. SAD candidates Harjinder Kaur and Hardip Singh too filed their nomination.
