Punjab Assembly Elections 2017: Former AAP convener Chhotepur floats 'Aapna Punjab Party', Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Aapna Punjab Party, Punjab 2017 Assembly polls, AAP , SAD

More than a month after he was sacked as Aam Aadmi Party's Punjab convener, Sucha Singh Chhotepur on Saturday floated a regional political outfit 'Aapna Punjab Party' which will fight in the 2017 Assembly polls in the state.

He also announced that a 'Punjab Progressive Alliance' will be set up soon, comprising of like-minded parties and people which will jointly contest elections in all 117 Assembly seats. Chhotepur, who gave his resignation from AAP yesterday, said floating of a regional party was the "need of the hour" after national parties like Congress, BJP, AAP and regional party SAD "failed" to take care of the interest of Punjab.

Earlier in August, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who was sacked from the post of party’s Punjab convener following allegations of seeking bribe for allotting party tickets, demanded a CBI probe, insisting that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party could defame him if he is guilty. Talking to reporters, Chhotepur said he was very surprised by the party’s decision.

“A transparent system should have been framed. A committee is formed after my removal. A standard process is that a committee is formed first and then the decision is taken. But it was not the case with me,” Chotepur said.

“I want to tell them that the people whom they have included in the committee were recommending my removal. I yesterday said this and I reiterate that if I had done any wrong deed, then there should be a CBI inquiry. If I am found guilty, they can defame me,” he added.
