The results of the poll has been declared today : 

The ruling Left Front, comprising four Left parties and dominated by CPI-M, wrested power in the Tripura civic polls securing 94 percent seats in total. This is the fourth consecutive time that the Left Front has swept the Tripura Civic elections.

Of the total 310 seats in the elections, Left front candidates won 291 seats while the Congress could secure 13 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged just 4 seats and rest of the two seats were won by other parties. In 49-seated Agartala Municipal Corporation, the Left Front registered landslide victory winning 45 seats. Rest of the four seats were won by Congress. Congress won four seats less than the previous elections.

The Left Front retained the 12 municipal councils and all six nagar panchayats. It has won the Jirania Nagar Panchayat in western Tripura as the Left parties got all seats uncontested before the elections.

 Total 87% voter turnout recorded in Tripura Civic Polls

    1. Voting started at 7 a.m. and many voters including women gathered early as they wanted to cast their vote before going to work or house hold chores.
    2. Over 5.24 lakh electors would decide the fate of a record breaking candidates-886 of all major political parties in the upcoming elections to Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and nineteen Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats.
  1. 20,027 voters would decide the fate of 48 candidates in the by-elections to 17 seats in the Panchayat.

 

Agartala: The State Election Commission has taken measures to hold fair and peaceful election to 19 out of 20 urban bodies of the state scheduled on Wednesday.
State election commissioner G Kameswar Rao on Monday said 5.24 lakh-odd electorate will decide the fate of 886 candidates, including 429 women, by exercising their franchise in 657 booths. The commission has identified 378 booths as 'sensitive' where at least five armed personnel will be deployed.

The last date of filing nomination papers is November 19

Scrutiny will take place on November 20.

The last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers is November 23.

Counting of votes December 9.

The December 9 elections to the prestigious Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and nineteen Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats are set to witness triangular contests with all major political parties – Left Front, Congress and BJP contesting the battle of ballots separately.

The entire 856-km border with Bangladesh has been sealed from Monday. As many as 6,600 security personnel, including 15 companies of CRPF and 2,580 TSR personnel, were deployed to hold fair and peaceful election, Rao said. At the end of campaigning, Congress announced to boycott polling in Khowai Municipality, alleging attack on their candidates and threat to their supporters.
