Bye election 2015: Six file papers for Meghalaya by-polls
SHILLONG – Six candidates, including two women, have filed their nomination papers for by-elections to Chokpot constituency in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district, a senior official said today.
Congress candidate Bluebell R Sangma, Garo National Council candidate Kalpana D Sangma and National Peoples’ Party’s Phillipole D Marak filed their nomination papers before the Returning Officer in Baghmara yesterday while independent candidates Seconton K Sangma, TR Marak, Daewish S Marak filed their papers today, Returning Officer Tangseng G Momin said.
The scrutiny of their papers will be held tomorrow at the Returning Officer’s office at 11 am while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is Saturday, he said.

GNC candidate Kalpana Sangma is the widow of GNC MLA Clifford R Marak who died early this year necessitating the by-election.
The State’s Election Office has sought deployment of additional 1,000 para military force personnel in the constituency in which over 22,000 voters are eligible to cast their votes in 46 polling stations, Momin said. The polling will take place on June 27 from 8 am to 4 pm.
